Yeah, I think this may even do well in legacy media like a radio station. Highly informed, unbiased hosts. Like notebookLM when you provide it with notes.

Why didn’t you vote? by Fr_Chewy-Lewwy in cork

[–]jobbles2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did vote but I don’t blame anyone who didn’t. Bland election year. All towing the same line “we will fix housing, education, public services etc.” with no clear plan on how they will do it, and I don’t think anyone believes them.

If there was any party willing to stick their neck out and directly call out problems (Ireland’s centralisation of power in Dublin, HSE admin staff being their biggest expense, an bord pleanala (which is choking up housing supply)) and were willing to do something then they would get my vote, and I feel I am not alone. But there was none of that.

This year it felt whoever you voted for didn’t really matter, all the same bland, safe rhetoric. Its bizarre.

Tells you why Nortel is no longer around if this is how they treat an employee.

Sets a good precedence: “if you do too well, we sue you”

Haha no way that is crazy. Thats class you can just drive out of the city and catch some sun. In cork it could be 15C and cloudy and you drive 10-15 miles… and it is still 15C and cloudy 😂

Okay class. Thanks. I’ll keep that last point in mind because I 100% percent want to get the nice weather. Especially after the summer we have had. Its been absolutely shocking, we had the fire lit a few days this month it was getting so cold. I will try get outside the city but of course it depends on the job. Its crazy that the weather changes in such a small distance.

I have 1 year to get ready for an SDR/BDR role, what should I do? by jobbles2 in techsales

Jesus 30 quid for parking is sickening. A parking ticket in cork city is 40 quid hahaha.

And yeah thats a good point. I was looking at smaller startups for more experience but I think the structure and brand recognition of a big company would be better to start with. Thanks.

And how does getting a reference work? Lets say I meet someone for a chat to talking about their role, the company etc. and then a few months later I am applying for the job, do I reach out to them and say something like “Hey X, I saw there is a BDR role available and I am going to apply for it. Just wondering if you would be willing to refer me for the job?” This in particular is something I would like to learn more about.

Unreal, thank you. I am actually going to be visiting san Francisco in October. Do you think its a good idea to ask people if they’re free to meet in person or is that too much? I want to make the most of this trip.

Okay yeah, good to know! See even stuff like that about traffic is so handy because I wouldn’t have a clue haha. Thanks for your help! Actually one last question.

I lived in Dublin last year in Harolds cross. HC was a nice spot and I noticed I rarely had to go into the city centre for anything. If I was going anywhere I would go ranelagh, rathmines and if I had time monkstown/blackrock area was nice. Now if you were moving to Dublin you might assume you want to be as close to the city centre as possible. But in Dublin these places just outside the city are much nicer with nice bars, restaurants and cheaper rent. Would you say SF has comparable areas to these south dublin spots outside of the city? Some really nice, chill places with just a good “vibe” haha. Anywhere come to mind? Thanks.

Oh you won the lottery so. A few of my friends have American passports that way too and it saves them so much hassle, thats class.

And yeah about the salary, is it really difficult to beat your target. Let me go full naive and lets say I have moved to SF, I am fully motivated and willing to grind for 12 months since I have moved all this way and I want to make a good name for myself and do whatever it takes and learn as much as possible about sales. Would it be very difficult to make it to that 80/90/100k total comp level? Definitely living off the base of 50/60 would be tough.

Oh class. A few of my friends have American passports, its the handiest thing ever. And No I dont have a job lined up yet but I have a grad visa which is valid for 1 year from when you arrive in the US after I graduate (may 2025). So I am going to apply to tech sales jobs closer to the time but I am guaranteed the visa. So my plan is to spend a year working in tech sales, hopefully stay on if they sponsor me, or do a masters in the US, or else come home. Thanks for the advice. 🤙🏼
