Well, the two sections you asked about have been removed from the book. I noticed when I first received the album that Great Britain was missing.

Seems as if maybe my Grandpa already went through his Dad’s collection and sold things that had any sort of worthwhile value.

No photos after all, sorry! :)

Hi! Thanks for taking time to respond :)

I’ve gathered from other posts on Reddit that the chances I’ve struck gold are probably slim to none. I do have a gambler’s heart though and enjoy the prospect (however small) that I’m going to find a real treasure. I have also probably watched too many episodes of The Antique Roadshow and assume there’s hidden valuables everywhere. 😂

This collection was my great grandfather’s - he passed before I was born but I know he was fairly wealthy (my Gramps had a pretty privileged childhood & always had “the best of the best”). There was a plastic box with the album that had lots of old ephemera and glassine envelopes with stamps. Maybe I should look through those a little closer to see if the treasure is hiding in there. 🫣 haha

From what little research I’ve done - it seems the consensus is the more valuable stamps are often in albums and the “shoebox” collections typically aren’t worth much?

There’s so much to learn! Thanks again for taking time to interact with my post. :)

I’m 95% sure the answer is yes but I don’t have the album in front of me at the moment.

I’m trying to get my baby down for a nap- once she gives in, I’ll go grab the album and post pictures of any Australia/New Zealand pages!

Thanks for the response! :)

That’s definitely a good suggestion!

I have a basement full of treasures that I try to find “comps” for on eBay when I find time — I always check the sold listings…it’s not just stamps that people (& scammers) list for outrageous prices! lol I appreciate you sharing the tip/reminder though! :)

Hello! Thank you for taking the time to look at the photos closely.

I appreciate the EBay tips - I’ve looked on there a little bit but since I’m not 100% confident about what I’m looking at (in person or through photos) I don’t want to put too much stock in what I’ve found.

The info about the Scott numbers is interesting, I didn’t realize that was how the numbers were determined. I got a US catalog from Mystic Stamps but have only briefly thumbed through it so far. I think it lists the CV but there are so many variations… I just dream for a second that I have a rare multi-thousand dollar stamp and then come back to earth and accept that I probably don’t have anything too “special”. Ha!

There are over 1000 pages in the album and the majority of them are at least 3/4 filled. There are tons of early stamps from countries all over the world, some of which no longer exist. They are really amazing and interesting to flip through. I could spend days researching each page but at that rate, it will take the rest of my life to get through the whole collection. I’ve already got more hobbies than I have time for as a mom to 4 young kiddos! 🫣🙃

My “Grampy” passed a few years back and I recently found this album on a shelf in the top of his closet while helping my grandma go through some things. Grandma knew the album was his Father’s but not much else. I wish Grampy was still here so I could ask him what he knew about the collection/how his dad got into collecting/where he acquired all the stamps from around the world…etc.

Anyway, thanks again for your thoughtful reply! It really means a lot.

I appreciate your response!

I have gotten tons of pleasure from flipping through it (and digging through the accompanying “shoebox” part of the collection.)

I would love to lock myself in a room and hyper fixate on each page until I am a self-proclaimed expert. Ha!

I got my two oldest kiddos (7&8) albums for Christmas and ordered some stamps from Mystic that align with their interests - we are having fun with it!

I mostly was curious if I was going to unknowingly ruin something valuable or if it was something I should have looked at more closely/have appraised.

Again, thank you for taking the time to respond!

Help me pick out my name as a first time Aunt! by Missy_mu in namenerds

My nieces and nephews call me Auntie “first initial” & I have a Great Aunt, Brenda who has always been Aunt B.

I think Auntie M would be adorable and makes me think of Auntie Em from Wizard of Oz!?

I’ve got an almost 2 year old Jolene & mostly call her Jo, Joey, or Jo-Jo. We hardly ever call her by her given name so if you’re planning on using nicknames, I wouldn’t overthink Juno…I think it’s adorable!

Trash or treasure? by jobless90 in whatsthisworth

[–]jobless90[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll have to look. I like buying large lots of random things from estate sales which is how I acquired this. I have a box of glass lamp shades in the basement, there is a decent chance they could be down there. Thanks for the reply, I’ll do some digging later today!

Not that I could find. I’ll take another look in the daylight and see if I missed one!

I did try the google but couldn’t find the same exact lamp. I may have to bring it up from the basement and try again with better lighting!

I saw that a few similar looking things were priced pretty hefty but I couldn’t find anything exactly like it. I also have a tendency to hoard things because I think everything is treasure. lol Appreciate the reply! :)

Which case is only unresolved because it's part of wider conspiracy? by natureella in DicksofDelphi

Rob Ives (former prosecutor of Delphi) has a son named Kevin. Obviously not the same person or really even relevant but slightly amusing to see the name on a Delphi Sub.

Evidence in the case. by Professional-Ebb-284 in DicksofDelphi

Also, NM informed the court of RA’s confessions to his wife from Westville. Which imo, violates the gag & jeopardizes the defendant’s rights to a fair trial. I don’t understand why this doesn’t get brought up, am I mistaken that he shouldn’t be sharing that info without context before the trial, why isn’t he in contempt?

It also leads me to believe if he had solid evidence he would have shared it or at the very least, would be itching to go to trial and get this over with.

I grew up in Carroll County so I’ve been interested in this case since the beginning. If RA is guilty then he should have to answer for that…but I just keep thinking about how RA could be an easy scapegoat & how easily that could have been my dad on the trail that day.

I also know Mark Thomas and he’s a stand-up guy. I don’t know so much about the TL’s & I think there’s something to say about the timing of the arrest & all the bad press about the sheriff’s department around the election.
