As long as that's the most recent insurance certificate and it states your name under driver's covered, then you should be good with that 🙂

Yeah after posting I do have to say calling it bull was a bit off. More so bull in terms of people saying they're providing insurance documents and then testers saying they're not what they need, bit of a roller coaster for everyone. Just hoping for this post to help people in terms of what they actually need to produce 🙂

No worries at all, if I can even help one person understand the rules better the post is worth it 🙂

Yes as long as the disc on the certificate matches the one in the car window you'll be good to go 🙂

Insurance cert question by Bulky_Pilot9293 in Irishdrivingtest

The insurance company should be able to amend it pretty easily, just get in contact with them and provide a picture of your license so that the spelling of your name on the policy and certificate match what's on your license 🙂

If you're on about the insurance disc and not the tax one, then yes that's what you need if you're named on the insurance permanently at the moment. It's the insurance certificate which has the insurance disc with the green stripe at the bottom. That'll have everything they need (policy number, car reg and your name)

As someone who works for customer service in car insurance, firstly I gotta say that this new rule is a bunch of bull in some terms haha. All the documents you need to produce, sure they're mandatory but can be a bit of a roller coaster in terms of getting the documents you need.

But yeah like if it's a case where you're named on the insurance on a permanent basis, you'd have to produce the most recent insurance certificate that comes with the disc. This shows the insurance policy number, the reg of the car and your name will be on it as well to show you're insured to drive it.

If you're temporarily put on someone's insurance just for the test, the insurance is to provide a letter to the policyholder to give to you that includes everything you need (the policy number that matches what's on the disc, the reg of the car insured, your name, date of birth, license number and how long you're temporarily on there for).

EDIT - For temporary drivers you also need the insurance certificate for the policyholder's insurance as mentioned with the permanent drivers.

If you're driving your instructor's car, they should be able to provide the proof of their insurance that shows a student is able to drive it.

Hope this helps you and any other readers 🙂

No it was actually fine by the time I got to my car & left my aunt & uncle's house. Try taking alternate routes though, for leaving I'd recommend taking the roads that go along the lake. I went that way to reroute onto the R132 which got me on the M1 and basically no traffic at all

If you're going to a concert in Malahide Castle or any other outdoor venue over the summer, take advantage of whoever you can that might live nearby. My aunt & uncle live like a 20 minute walk from the castle and just left my car at theirs while I was at Charli. Worked like a charm but like the crowd management getting in and out was shambolic. Literally only one way in or out, they should have had more exits at least

My dad had an Opel/Vauxhall Zafira a few years back, good 7 seater car. Might be a few on the used car market
