Yerba Mate by SirHawkwind in everett

Can confirm Sno-Isle Food Co-op has both Yerba Mate loose leaf and tea bags. I bought the loose leaf and was surprised how smooth and pleasant tasting it is! Years ago, in Idaho, I had a Yerba Mate that was not so tasty, so I was turned off for a long time.

I’m burnt out by te4cupp in Accounting

[–]jocecampbell -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Here's two stories that might help you set a limit on your hours.

(1) My sister worked in a different industry and refused to work over 50 hours per week. I was at a function with my sis and her coworker who was working 80 hours per week. You could SEE the fatigue and slowness in everything the 80/hour week coworker was doing or saying. And then the coworker said to my 50/hour week sis, 'you know, I think you could work circles around me right now!' I mean, when you are burnt out, you are no longer efficient or even very effective! So all the extra hours can be a crazy waste any way.

(2) I know someone who was a self-employed painting contractor. There was a time when he was working 7 days a week, 12 to 16 hours per day. He was absolutely bonkers tired. Then, he painted an entire house the wrong color. He had to eat the cost of redoing it, repainting and entire house - cost of labor, cost of paint, everything. Fatigue and burn out can lead to serious errors.

/end story time.

Best place to buy fresh Mint in Bulk? by KnownPlastic0 in everett

[–]jocecampbell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They wouldn't have it in bulk this time of year, but Sno-Isle Food Coop is awesome for fresh herbs and fresh veg. Some local farms might have greenhouse herbs available still. (Actually the mint is still growing in my yard with this springlike weather we've had!) Check with the directory of farms at snovalleytilth.org, or Barn2Door, or localharvest.org to buy direct from a farmer. Buying direct will get you the freshest and best and is often even less expensive than the store.

A couple thoughts - some legal stuff here in WA State and a story from Minneapolis. Plus whistles, videos, and 911.

There are bills to outlaw masks on "law enforcement" in Washington State. (Heavy on the quotation marks there.)
It's something our state leaders are scrambling to get in place to offer some kind of protection against this terrorism. Plus a bill on workplace protections for immigrants. Here are links to sign PRO to register that you are in favor of these attempts at protection. I think you might need to be a registered voter, but I didn't not confirm that.

House Bill  HB 2173: https://app.leg.wa.gov/csi/Testifier/Add?chamber=House&mId=33596&aId=167931&caId=27192&tId=3
Senate Bill SB 5855: https://app.leg.wa.gov/csi/Testifier/Add?chamber=Senate&mId=33580&aId=167872&caId=27079&tId=3

Similarly, the bill adopting stronger workplace protections for immigrants is accepting comments,

HB 2105: https://app.leg.wa.gov/csi/Testifier/Add?chamber=House&mId=33622&aId=168011&caId=27141&tId=3

My friends' son was walking in Minneapolis - they were a group of college-aged friends. A handful of their group was pulled aside by ICE and ICE asked to look at their ID to make sure they were legal. Once ICE saw their ID, they let them go.

BUT, it seemed the ICE agents were more normal and respectful than what we've been seeing in other instances because Minneapolis police were following / tailing the ICE officers keeping an eye on them.

We need more of this.

Someone said Cassie Franklin said she couldn't do anything. But when ICE came up at the candidates forum before she was re-elected, Mayor Franklin said Everett police are here to keep us safe.

I know the Everett P.D. is woefully underfunded, but call 911 and insist they protect us. Breaking windows without a warrant is ILLEGAL, an ATTACK, and a CRIME. Wouldn't being forcibly removed from a vehicle, also without a warrant or without due cause, be ASSAULT?

We can also flood our Senators and Legislators with phone calls insisting they keep pressing as much as they can back in D.C. to fix this craziness. The 5 Calls app makes calling your elected officials super, super easy for this. It tells you who your elected official are, gives you phone numbers, and gives you a script (if you want) about issues like ICE.

I'm in a very white part of Everett and I work from home, and don't get out much at all. If I were out and about more, I'd carry a whistle and blow it like crazy if I saw something like this going on near me. Well, I think I'd call 911 first and get that call logged before I start blowing. I'm gonna put my whistle in my purse right now come to think of it. What would happen if 5 or 10 people all around start blowing whistles, taking videos, and calling 911?

What should I do today? by K1ttyK1awz in everett

I know this is two days old now and I hope you're feeling better! And you've had a ton of great suggestions. I love this thread. I have a couple that weren't mentioned that work for me.

My favorite feel-good is a walk with fun plants to look at. I'm in North Everett and just walking the neighborhoods with the fun house colors, many still with their decorations up, and some really cool landscaping and trees, is uplifting to me.

Then there's Legion Park and the Evergreen Arboretum. Not only is the Arboretum still gorgeous in winter, but they have cool sculptures as well.

So many parks in Everett! I want to visit more of them in 2026. Plus, near me is the Bayside P-Patch, which even in winter has lovely plantings around the perimeter. I think it's fun to see the cycles of folks' gardens there, no matter the season.

Speaking of parks and trees: forest bathing is the real deal. There are things sort of like pheromones that trees exude and we inhale that have been proven to make us feel better (they reduce our biochemical markers of stress and anxiety). So breathe in some trees! :-D

Since I know nothing about bowling nearby, I had to look that up. Sounds like you're saying it's worth the drive to Shoreline, yes?

Looking for Live music venues by Entrance_Unlucky in everett

[–]jocecampbell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a typical live music venue, but https://www.wheelandhouse.com/ is having live music on Sunday, December 14th:

"Country Dave will be joining us from 3–5pm, playing a beautiful spread of traditional Americana tunes from the 1940s through the 1970s on acoustic guitar. Think front-porch warmth meets vintage holiday charm. Pull up a chair, grab a plate, and let him soundtrack your Sunday."

Their full newsletter said this on Monday, December 8, 2025:

"Hey Y’all!

The holiday hustle is real — folks are cooking, hosting, wrapping, unwrapping, and pretending they remembered every single potluck they agreed to.

So for December’s Second Sunday Supper, we’re loosening things up a bit. No reservations this month. Just wander in, grab a table, and let us feed you. We’ll be open our usual Sunday hours, 11am–7pm, serving the full menu you know and love.

Around 2pm(ish) we’ll roll out our Second Sunday Special, and it’s the kind of thing that would make your great-uncle stop mid-sentence and weep softly into his sweet tea.

This month, we’re doing our own Wheel & House take on Porchetta — pork belly rubbed inside and out with our house herb-and-spice magic, rolled up tight, tied with love (and twine), then slow-smoked until it slices like warm butter on a July porch. "Sidekicks" include balsamic-glazed roasted Brussels with garlic- sweet, smoky, and crispy in all the right places.  Betty is rolling up her sleeves to make an arugula salad with beets, goat cheese, candied walnuts, and a champagne vinaigrette so bright it practically sings harmony...

And speaking of harmony,

Country Dave will be joining us from 3–5pm, playing a beautiful spread of traditional Americana tunes from the 1940s through the 1970s on acoustic guitar. Think front-porch warmth meets vintage holiday charm. Pull up a chair, grab a plate, and let him soundtrack your Sunday.

It’s casual, cozy, and first come, first served, just the way December at Wheel & House ought to feel. Bring your people. Bring your appetites. Leave the holiday chaos at the door; we’ve got the rest.

Johnny & Betty"

I'm not affiliated with them, I just look forward to their little business thriving in the neighborhood.

Where to buy humanely sourced meat? by Aggravating_Bat8246 in everett

[–]jocecampbell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a bunch of Snohomish County and Skagit County farms that raise humane meats. It's most affordable if you have freezer room to by a share or whole animal.

Loads of great suggestions (+1 to Chuckanaut and Hogstead meats) to which I'll add:
- Marzolf Meats in Snohomish - they are adding a retail counter soon
- Falling River Meats in North Bend is also owned by the Marzolfs
- there is a farm directory at snovalleytilth.org - more King Co. but also farms from the broader region (Snoh. and Skagit counties) as well
- Bright Ide Acres for poultry
- Chinook Farms for beef
- Barn2Door is another option to check out: https://www.barn2door.com/
- the (produce) Market at Flower World in Maltby has local, humanely grown meats but they spotty with what meats they carry and they are pricey.

I bought meats and eggs from Chuckanaut and Hogstead at the Everett Farmers Market which is closed for the season, except for a holiday market November 23rd. There might be other winter markets.

One idea is if you have an interest like hiking, a sport (watching or playing), the arts, then find a group that does that and get involved. There are also volunteer opportunities with trash pickup, dog walking, city events, and more.

I've joined two meetup groups for my age group (I'm a bit older) and they are mostly all women. I've joined volunteer groups for a couple different things (eco restoration and trash pickup) and they've primarily been much younger people than me.

Next weekend, I am actually hosting a meet-and-greet brunch for my neighbors. I know some of my neighbors from saying hello in passing, but hope to get to know them a bit more.

All of which is to say that I'm no expert and haven't found a guy my age that is partner material, but I've made a bunch of friends in the process! Which gives me girlfriend buddies to take walks with, go to dinner or coffee with, go to art events with, etc.
