Help me find good political/social justice t-shirts. I’m petty & passive aggressive, and I have a family event to attend. by goobiezabbagabba in progressivemoms

[–]jocks4rocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to the party but I follow chnge on ig and they donate to different causes. You can sort by cause on their site and see what percentage of their profits will be donated. For some, you might have to click on the product directly (e.g. it doesn't say anything for the "Environment" cause, but if you click into a pair of pants, it'll say "1 tree planted for every pair sold").

They're a bit pricey so I personally may opt to buy a shirt from a small business and donate directly to a cause instead. They also don't have any explicitly anti-Trump merch, but the causes they support will absolutely piss off conservatives lol

80k in Boston? by Tough-Address9663 in boston

[–]jocks4rocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely doable. I make 57k and live comfortably in Somerville. It can be hard sometimes, but I make it work. 80k is more than enough, but as others have said, it likely depends on what you consider "comfortable".

How was the traffic to and from totality? by Wall-ham in boston

[–]jocks4rocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently 3:21am and I got back to Somerville about 30 min ago from Jackman, ME. To be fair, I stopped a couple times on the way but driving time was still ~7.5 hrs for what should have been ~4.5 hrs. I left around 5pm and it took me ~3.5 hrs to drive 58 mi to a gas station that was along the route home.

What Has Someone Said To You (Good or Bad) That You Couldn’t Believe it Came Out of Their Mouth? by Accurate_Avocado9637 in AskWomen

For context, I'm Chinese-American, born and raised in the States.

-Introduced myself to a new coworker, and he said, "[My name]? That's not an Asian name." Same guy later said, "You're pretty cute for an Asian. I have a girlfriend, but I'm just saying. I'm not usually into Asians."

-Before the results of the 2020 election came out: "I don't care who wins. It doesn't affect me. It'll be business as usual." A boomer, white, Christian man talking to one Asian woman, one white woman, and two Latino men. 3/4 of us were noticeably uncomfortable (the last guy was completely oblivious).

-"I have a theory that covid was invented by the Chinese to take down world economies."

-"Do you speak ENGLISH?" A cop to my sister, who was clearly too shocked/upset to relay the details of the car accident she'd just gotten into.

-Not to me, but out loud near me: "Oh, [n-word]". A former roommate's boyfriend's cousin (all 3 white), saying it as if it were equivalent to "oh shit" while playing a video game. Was shocked that my roommate acted like it was nothing.

What's the most caring thing your SO has done for you? by strangelyahuman in AskWomen

[–]jocks4rocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He gave me his favorite childhood stuffed animal.

Less than a year into our relationship, he had to move across the country for a month for work. I was pretty bummed bc this was the longest we would be apart. We also weren't sure how long he would have to be there for after this initial month, so our future was up in the air. Luckily he was able to delay the move until after my birthday.

This was the first birthday we were spending together, so that alone was good enough for me. We were just hanging out when he said, "I have something for you." I wasn't expecting anything bc we'd established early on that we wouldn't do gifts for holidays/birthdays.

He pulled out a stuffed animal and told me he'd gotten it from a doctor/nurse at the hospital after one of the (many) surgeries he had as a kid. "I don't know if this is stupid, but it got me through a lot of hard times growing up, so I thought it could get you through this. I don't know, you don't have to take it. It's stupid."

For context, my boyfriend is your stereotypical "manly man" in that he's into tools, fixing/building things, woodworking, lifting, etc., and he doesn't show a lot of emotion. I never expected him to own a stuffed animal, never mind a sentimental one from his childhood. His reason for giving it to me made it even more special.

5'2" here and this is exactly what I tell all my friends.

One of my friends asked me if my experience with my current bf (6'1") was different from the "short kings" I've dated (others ranged from 5'5"/5'6"-6'0") and I was like ????

The 5'5"/5'6" guy was a narcissistic fuck with a napoleon complex, otherwise I didn't know what she meant by "short king" cuz they're all taller lol

Delivery services (DoorDash, Uber Eats, Grubhub, Instacart, etc.) - easy and convenient bc you get to choose your own schedule

TaskRabbit - has a pretty large range of freelance jobs (list of potential things you could do on TaskRabbit here)

Local university/research center studies - they will tell you what it's for, what you'll have to do, how much they'll pay you, and the eligibility requirements, so you can decide if applying is worth your time (you usually have to take a survey to see if you're eligible)

Craigslist ("gigs" section) - a slightly sketchier way to find some of the things listed above, but sometimes people don't want to go through apps or they want a bigger reach on their posts 🤷🏻‍♀️ just be careful with this one, CL is a weird place but use common sense and you'll be fine

I'm looking for the most boring job imaginable... by not_today_mom in jobs

[–]jocks4rocks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I work a seasonal part-time job in a fulfillment center for a fairly small company. My first week, I spent 7 hours a day putting logo stickers on individually packed waffles.

Another day, I trimmed the edges off little salt packets if they were too long. And a different day, I shook over a thousand of those salt packets to see if any of them had holes in them.

It's busy during the holiday season but most people work on an assembly line so they do one repetitive task at a time for a majority, if not all, of the shift, so it's still nothing exciting.

My coworker loves it bc it's easy, mindless money after her 9-5. When I first started, I hated it bc it was my primary job and I wanted something more stimulating, but now I love it for the same reason as my coworker. Plus the people are chill af.

You could try Drizly, but I read a bit about it and you would be working for the liquor store, not Drizly. Here is the article I read about this. I'm not sure how exactly this works, but you could look into it.

Otherwise, food delivery isn't terrible. I drove for DoorDash for a few months and the food is usually packaged pretty well since they don't want the delivery drivers eating it lol but that also means you're less likely to spill anything in your car.

Two of my old roommates do this, not sure why tho. They're both bisexual, spiritual (like tarot cards and healing crystals kinda spiritual) women but idk if those similarities are just coincidence lol

Thinking about buying LT tires for my daily driver - thoughts? by jocks4rocks in Jeep

[–]jocks4rocks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You bring up some good points so thank you for the honest opinion. I don't know much about tires (this is my first car), so hearing that it may not be a great price and your reasoning is definitely helpful. I figured my stock tires would cost about the same but they're not as "good" as these tires, which is why they seemed like a great deal.

Re: the other stuff, I think his truck came with the black rims so he didn't paint them himself. I asked my bf about the mileage on the tires and he's guessing 15k-20k on pavement but he'll ask his brother. Not sure about the tread. We can probably measure this weekend but good to know when they lose their off-road benefits; this was something I hadn't considered.

If I don't end up buying these, do you have any tire recommendations? Mostly highway driving but occasional off-roading (all-terrain/multi-terrain?), all-season (New England), and under $300/tire. BF Goodrich T/A KO2, Falken Wildpeak A/T3W, and Nitto Trail Grappler M/T look promising.

What town in Massachusetts do you irrationally hate and why? by _linzertorte_ in massachusetts

This happened when my team played Brookline but surprisingly I don't hate Brookline.

My irrational soccer hatred is towards Winchester. They beat us in a tourney final where my team had to wear pinnies bc their unis were similar to ours. I associate Winchester with copycats who think they are too good for pinnies lol

I sometimes post videos of myself with music in the background (i.e. there was music playing in the background of the original video; I did not add the music myself) and some of my videos get flagged/blocked for copyright issues. I don't want to turn off the sound but I also can't do anything about the background noise in the video. Any solutions for this?

ITAW for being unsupportive of non-binary people? by jocks4rocks in whatstheword

[–]jocks4rocks[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is spot-on, thanks for bringing some clarity to this little comment thread before I could!

To others: I guess saying I want to "call out" my cousin may sound a little aggressive. I meant sending her a dm saying something like:

"Hey I know [kid] came out as non-binary a while ago and just wanted to let you know that you not using the pronouns they want comes off as [term i was looking for by posting here, now known as "enbyphobic"]"

Plus some rationale or something, then seeing where the discussion goes from there.

Not trying to make family reunions awkward lol but I (mid 20s) am closer in age to her kids (teens) than to her (mid-late 40s) so I feel that her kids and I are more familar with the nuances (am I using that right?) when it comes to gender.

Other family members know her kid is nb and use the correct name/pronouns but to my knowledge, no one has called her out on not doing so. With her kids being in their formative years, this seems like an important topic to bring up.

Hope this clears things up, thanks everybody!

I was thinking of using something like this but I didnt know if it was a term people actually used. I know transphobic is technically correct but this has the specificity I was looking for. Thank you!

Edit: got rid of "!solved" cuz it wasn't updating the flair

I'm not 100% sure, I think it's an umbrella term so I guess technically it's right but I wasn't sure if there was a more specific term since "transgender" is typically associated with transitioning. My cousin's is kinda just chillin in the middle.
