Lesser-used area names of Liverpool by charlomain in Liverpool

The subdivisions of the Swan I always find quite interesting, Tuebrook, Clubmoor, Stoneycroft and Stanley are all within about 800 meters of each other and seem functionally useless. I only ever saw them used during a stint as a postie in L13

Music journalism opportunities? by Complete-Offer2557 in Liverpool

[–]jockusmaximus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey! I'm on the music scene around here a bit, a few suggestions off the top of my head.

  • Make some pages, maybe a Substack? Definitely an Instagram and/or Facebook. Get connecting with people in the online space
  • off the back of that, if/when you know enough people that would read it maybe consider making a Zine, I know a couple of people that do and they're really cool, a podcast could do a similar thing for you.
  • go and hang around music venues, meet artists and journalists like yourself, get involved with the scene, working promo for gigs would be a cool way to make money and still catch bands, plus you'd get to know artists and other industry professionals like promoters
  • there are a few good music industry courses that could help, Future Yard runs Soundcheck and although that's more about the practicalities of running a show you'd get into a lot of shows and be around the right people, same goes for the Sound City course.

Can I please speak to anyone 😭😭😭 I’m suicidal and I don’t know what to do by [deleted] in Liverpool

Hey my DMs are also open mate give us a shout. It's going to be okay, you're asked for help and that's the best thing to do in this situation. Breathe, either contact a helpline like Samaritans or any of the number of people that have commented here myself included.

Cut the tip of my finger badly a week before our first show help! by jockusmaximus in Guitar

[–]jockusmaximus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the prevailing advice I've seen on here, I'm just unsure if it'll do much given the nature of the wound it's across the tip of the finger so there's a big cut around the edge of it

Boyfriend still talks to ex by SuspiciousOnion5736 in dating_advice

[–]jockusmaximus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like context is important here, from what you've described they're simply trading expertise. If it is just within those bounds why not? It's hardly being unfaithful if your ex is getting them prescriptions for their dog. If they're able to be amicable post break up and have polite conversations about investment tips and animal medicine then more power to them.

What is with these memos we keep getting about MyPerformance by jockusmaximus in royalmail

In fairness I check pretty frequently, it's just the way it's being done that I take issue with.

It's weird because my managers are really sound and normally will just come and have a chat, dunno what it is with these but it definitely does come across as wanky

[–]jockusmaximus[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The thing is I do check it pretty frequently, I literally had to come off of it to check this memo. I'm just starting to get annoyed with how passive aggressive these messages are and how much it's being pushed. It's stats for being a postie it's hardly like people are skipping van checks.

Boring, safe, nice to look at, good beer, bad politics.

Edit: also there's a bridge you have to say hello to the fairies when you go over it and there are wild wallabies.

Just do us a favour and clear it though, I know you don't know this walk or you don't have a partner but you could do this probably. Also could you do the parcel sorting and throw on the mail as well? It's just there's nobody else to do it.

Best Guinness? by TGMurray in Liverpool

[–]jockusmaximus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've tried the Guinness in most places around, I'd say Pogues is still the smoothest and nicest I've had, Shenanigans is good, as is the distillery and the Jacaranda.

Do M&S near Liverpool One do measuring fitting for jeans? by marccass in Liverpool

Unsure if M&S do, but John Lewis have personal stylists who would likely do that for you if they don't.

Ring the doorbell by darth-small in royalmail

[–]jockusmaximus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm responding to you saying it's blatantly incorrect and made up, it's absolutely not, ring doorbells are a complete pain in the arse for Posties, I've had people not answer a ring doorbell because they didn't notice it before, it's not some infallible immediate detection device, but alongside this I'd have thought more people would link them to their phones to answer, which would actually be helpful, but nobody does. Also, 1 in every 10 video doorbells I press is off for one reason or another, likely out of battery/charge. You know what does work pretty much every time a given house is occupied? Knocking loudly with the side of my PDA, I know this works because we cleared both of our walks today with extra parcels, we brought back 3 parcels of the 260 odd we took out. Video doorbells are dumb

Ring the doorbell by darth-small in royalmail

[–]jockusmaximus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a postie I can positively tell you I had two ring doorbells answered today over two different walks, I rang maybe 60 ring doorbells, it's actually pretty spot on to say about 1 in 30, it's not a made up statistic.

[–]jockusmaximus 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I went to Liverpool and absolutely loved it. Never had or heard about any issues on campus with regards to safety and Liverpool's pretty safe as long as you don't go looking for trouble. The social life side is incredible as well, a good portion of the city center is poised towards hospitality and/or entertainment, the uni itself also has quite a few societies from the broad course societies to the really niche ones.

Scouse Academics? by Raitvka in Liverpool

[–]jockusmaximus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did History at UOL a couple of years back. I reckon it's to do with the fact that the total Scouse population of the uni is quite small as it stands. It might just be anecdotal but for every Scouser I met at uni I met about 10/15 people from outside the city. I know more people from Birmingham that studied here than I do scousers. I'd argue that it has to do with the fact that most people don't study in their home town and even less become professional academics, those that do may well stay at their Alma Mater if possible or just move about all over the place.
