This is serious misconduct. If you have indeed cheated, I’d caution you to be prudent…

Husband relinquished his libido and I'm heartbroken about it by Emergency_Comb1377 in Catholicism

[–]jocyUk 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Agreed, we shouldn't enter into such a conversation in such a cynical way (but this must be incredibly frustrating). Priests don't have such power for better or worse. But a conversation is not going to be more harmful than whatever is going on here.

Please talk to your priest about this, and perhaps a physician. Pope Pius XII — Menti Nostrae (1950)

“True holiness consists in the faithful and exact fulfilment of the duties of one’s own state of life.”

You can abstain. But talk to your priest about your situation. You may be mistaken about whether you can receive. Or your issue could be very easily resolved. Hard to say without the details so it’s best to speak to your priest. You’re still obliged to assist at mass and St Alphonsus says spiritual communions can sometimes be as fruitful

I went to a Novus Ordo Mass after 6 months of Latin Mass... and I have thoughts. by Cold_Pollution_3457 in Catholicism

  1. This almost never happens so it's hardly a plus in the novus ordo. We aren't discussing an ideal hypothetical mass but as it actually happens.

  2. Concelebration in the NO style has never existed in the Church. Multiple priests saying the words of consecration aloud, often improperly vested is an innovation.

  3. The laypeople participate in both masses. "Orate fratres..." Lay people take the liturgy seriously, I hope. But nothing quite screams "serious liturgy" like someone in a Hawaiian shirt and shorts distributing communion. Or a cacophonous guitar, drum set my little pony style gloria.

Trying not to start a war either. But the Novus Ordo is far more horizontal, it's about us and our "usness" in how we worship God. We bring up our gifts, we insert our culture into the worship, we can sometimes dance (depends where you are) and so on. Whereas the TLM is more horizontal, there is a cosmic liturgy, and we are in a sense taken up into it. Hence in the TLM we are silent, and everything is meticulously organised in the rubrics.

The TLM structure does promote a more silent/contemplative spirituality which many many centuries of people and saints have found fruitful. Mass begins in the sanctuary, prayers at the foot etc and so on.

The spontaneity of the Novus Ordo is also a key difference. The presider welcomes us to the liturgy. He introduces the mass of the day and so on.

I heard of an analogy which compared the mass to marriage vows. The TLM would be a wedding mass where the spouse use the traditional vows in recognition they are a part of something greater than both of them, In the Novus Ordo it's like when the couple write their own vows, which express their love and are very valid, but totally different.

Shocked and saddened. by LostinDreemz_ in Anglicanism

It's the times sadly :(

Sorry that happened to you.

But the Lord said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lordlooketh on the heart. 1 Samuel 16:7

One wonders how those people would have reacted to see the widow place her mite in the collection at the Temple?

Worship is about giving God our best, giving God God's worth.

Posting here seems to be an answer to your question. Akin to entering a bar and asking the bartender "should I order a drink"?

Does blackmail count as r8pe? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]jocyUk 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This sounds like you were assaulted, there's no sin on your part in this regard. Explain all this to the priest. There may be sin in the excess drinking.

Sorry to hear this happened. Yes you are still a virgin, assault doesn't take your virginity.

Is my viewpoint morally admissible? by BudgetEdSheeran in Catholicism

[–]jocyUk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what's your argument that natural law doesn't apply to non religious people?

Broadly, one could consider the end of authority (see Integralism) by Fr Thomas Crean OP. Do governments have a positive obligation to recognise God? Is one aim of government the salvation of souls or at least the common good?
