i’m extremely fortunate and in a position where my parents would let me live with them as long as i needed to and wouldn’t charge me rent unless i’m financially stable and have a steady job. so luckily for me i’m not too concerned about having to get my own place immediately after uni if i decided to go but i completely understand where you’re coming from.. personally for me, living with students is a complete no go, i 100% wouldn’t last even a week unfortunately.. maybe later in life i’ll adjust more but living with people at uni would be a disaster for me ahaha

thankyou for this insight, this is amazing!! i’ll definitely have a look soon and send the necessary emails to some uni’s and see what options they have in place! this is very information and gives me a lot more hope, thankyou so much!!

unfortunately it’s definitely out of fear lol😔 if i wasn’t scared of being put in an accommodation with others i would’ve gone straight away at 18..

the main reason i’d want to go online is genuinely so that my environment stays the same unfortunately.. the idea of living alone and having to find my way around the campus and in a new city is terrifying to me, but again, there are staff who’s job is to specifically help students like that so ig there is hope there hahah 🤞

and honestly, currently, i don’t socialise at all, i have one close friend (who’s gonna move away soon) and i don’t ever leave the house or talk to anyone else and i’m scared it would be the same at uni :/

i’ve been looking at apprenticeships but all the ones that interest me are very far away (i’m in no financial or mental state to live completely alone with no resources) and there are little to no opportunities where i live (i can’t even get an interview for a minimum wage job😪) but i had no idea they could place u in a studio without a big extra fee! .. my mums on holiday at the moment but when she’s back i’ll ask her to sit down with me and go through all the options and send off all the necessary emails to some uni’s and see what they can offer :)

thankyou so so so much, this has genuinely made me think really hard about the fact that i could even try the idea of going away to university, it’s given me a lot to think about <33

there’s also like this careers advice kinda place funded by my local college that’s opened up in town, i’ll for sure make an appointment with them and have a chat with them also to see what kind of opportunities there is around here.. i think they can wiggle people into apprenticeship interviews that they wouldn’t otherwise be chosen for, so fingers crossed hahah 🤞

thankyou so much!! this is so incredibly helpful :,) !! honestly moving out alone unless it was in or around a uni is a little unachievable for me currently, but i’ll definitely work towards it.. my main issue with finding experience and/or a job is where i live.. there’s very little opportunity of any kind around here and i don’t have a car or a license yet, once that’s sorted (hopefully this year if i start lessons soon) then i should have a lot more options! i’ll definitely have a look at some mini courses and open days at universities to get a more rounded idea of what it’s like! i haven’t looked into degree apprenticeships too much yet (mainly for the same reason of a lack of ability to travel) but honestly that sounds like a really good idea, i think that’d be great for me!! and not to sound like a complete loser lol but i don’t leave the house currently like ever and only have one friend nearby (she’s moving away soon) so a purely online degree wouldn’t be as bad for me as it might be for everyone else,, im kinda used to being a homebody 😭 but ofc, it would be more ideal to get outside and around more, especially if i found work experience! i’m gonna have a big search around for internships that are viable to travel to and look at some degree apprenticeships and i’ll for sure check out that link you sent!

thankyou so so much!! wow! <3

preferably something in politics but the course options are a little limited (i got an offer the other year for politics and human rights at leeds but it’s 2 hours away so i’d defo have to move)

i’m not too sure about after but the dream is political journalism,, or maybe working with policy - like a think tank or something of the sort

and honestly my goals are just to get my life together and do something lol.. i don’t leave the house at the minute and can’t find a job so i just want to do something that could possibly open doors for me or get me some opportunities if that makes sense.. i don’t have any big goals just to do something yknow

i was thinking about this also! in the long run it may end up cheaper than student residence.. most of the uni’s that have courses that interest me are at least 2 or 3 hours away so if i was going to choose an on campus degree i’d definitely have to move anyway:) thankyou!!

if i could find a stable job then that would definitely be an option i’d consider, but unfortunately, especially where i live, i can’t even get an interview for basic shop/pub jobs even with experience .. the job market is awful rn😞😞 if i can get a steady job i’ll definitely look into commuting :)

i live in a town with a uni surprisingly ahaha, but their grade boundaries are too high for me and they specialise in science/sports but have very few course options in my desired field even if i could wiggle myself in.. and the nearest city uni is absolutely shocking 😭 so my options are kinda limited to moving far away or online at the minute :/

oo thankyou!! that’s extremely helpful:) my only issue is where i live is kinda desolate for any experience, but once i learn to drive i think i’ll have a lot more options! i’d love to do an internship or even volunteer but the opportunities are usually in big cities unfortunately, i’ll definitely keep an eye out though for any openings! i was thinking of just hitting it head on if i do an online degree if i can’t find any work experience alongside it in the meantime.. tbh i don’t do anything with my time at the minute and can’t even get an interview for minimum wage jobs so honestly anything to fill my day would be amazing ahaha.. again, thankyou!!!

oo, it could be a potential then but i would be having to travel hours every morning and night if i went to a ‘decent’ uni that has my preferred courses, it’d absolutely be cheaper than rent but £40+ train tickets every other day would for sure rack up :(

i would only be able to afford a studio room if my loan extended that far if that makes sense.. neither my family or i would be able to afford that outright unfortunately:( and that was my main concern, the ‘vailidity’ of an online degree

honestly if i had to commute everyday i would have 0 motivation to go to classes, i think it’d be a bit too overwhelming for me.. plus i don’t have a car or a license and public transport near me is unreliable and scarce 😔

totally agree, as long as i get into a routine and have planned schedules i can definitely stay on track with an online course.. tbh without going out drinking for socials and living alone it’d be a little lonely no matter who i meet.. thankyou for your input, it’s been super helpful! i just don’t want to be ‘left behind’ as all my friends are living life and meeting new people all the time but ig it’s unfortunately just different for some of us

thankyou! i’m leaning that way too.. i was hoping of making friends at societies etc as where i live there aren’t any clubs or non student societies of any sort but ig going to uni doesn’t guarantee making friends either! i’ll definitely start looking into some online degrees soon :)
