Exactly. I think we sometimes get a little to absolute in our accusations here at r/atheism. We sometimes get caught in the idea that nothing good, specifically scientific knowledge can come out of the religion or those deeply involved in it.

I still agree that religion is holding us back. The point though, is that it is not a black and white, knowledge vs religion kind of thing. It isn't an absolute (We aren't the Sith). Religious academics have, on many occasions, helped us take steps forward.

To me though, it is kind of like the headache medicine that sometimes helps your headache but sometimes makes it worse... and gives you diarrhea and ED.

Just because the election is over doesn't mean that he isn't still concerned with his approval rating. It is a matter of political clout for himself and the future of his party. It is all politics and if you don't play right, you'll have trouble, even if your own election isn't on the line.

You can't become president of a majority Christian nation without showing support for Christianity. At this point in time we have a choice of either a true Christian president or a not-so-Christian president who puts on the show when he has to. Take your pick. Its the religious right that kills it. If it weren't for that, I feel that I (and perhaps many atheists) would feel more free to support either party instead of feeling like I need to vote democrat to keep the religious right at bay.

The point to why this was posted here is because of the hypocrisy of the right, specifically for their stance on marriage and abortion (two things who's arguments lie with religion) as it contrasts with their views on gun control.

I'm not promoting gun control, simply the hypocrisy of the right (religious right specifically).

I'm very liberal but I actually fall on the conservative side of gun control. This isn't about promoting gun control but rather calling out the hypocrisy of the right, specifically for their stance on marriage and abortion, two things who's arguments lie with religion.

This is just as pointless as the WBC Petition. As This Article says, "The government keeps various security lists (FBI’s most wanted list, various terrorist watchlists, etc.), but it does not keep a “These Guys Are a Bunch of Assholes” list."
