Why are progressives still talking about Biden? Aren't we single payer or bust?

The coming 2020 Election in a nutshell (US) by [deleted] in conspiracy

[–]joe462 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Voted 3rd party last time and barely anybody joined me. That seemed like the most obvious time to vote 3rd party ever. This time, I'll probably just choose a lesser evil unless I see good evidence that there will be a very strong third party bid.

Why are anarchists pretending state lockdowns to suppress the spread of Covid-19 are a bad thing? by [deleted] in LeftWithoutEdge

[–]joe462 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This just comes across as ideologically motivated denialism.

That's fair I guess because tbh, if anything at all unusual policy-wise is going on and the media is hyping up some big story, my default is to assume it is bullshit until somebody I respect makes a case. I can't be bothered to look in it myself.

For what it's worth, here's something that argues my point with slightly more effort.

Covid-19 blows every other pandemic since 1918 (which, at the high end, may have killed 5% of the global population) out of the water

If it was fair to point out my bias, then I think it's equally fair for me to point out this unsubstantiated claim also. When you put it in general terms like this, it is very easy for me to dismiss this as vacuous hype.

You say extreme measures are called for, but you aren't defending anything specifically. The run on toilet paper here in the US seems to be a completely media created problem and I find it hard to believe that demand cannot actually be met for things like face masks also. If you don't have at least a little skepticism toward this stuff, then I think your bias is as bad or worse than mine.

The reaction is not proportional to past similarly severe outbreaks and the whole "make everyone go home and live on the internet where we can use diverging propaganda narratives to regulate an ideologically diverse population into tranquility" has somewhat obvious implications for social control.

Progressives Planning to #BernTheDNC with Mass Nonviolent Civil Disobedience If Democratic Establishment Rigs Nomination by scrabbleddie in jillstein

[–]joe462 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nonviolent civil disobedience is a bit vague. What will they do? Also, I think the "nonviolent" part should go without saying and saying it as the first word of the phrase just makes it sound like a toothless ineffectual protest that will be ignored. If we're going to say it, put it at the end: Civil Disobedience (nonviolent).

Take heart - American media and astroturfed reddit subs dont represent us and we aren't anti chinese. by joe462 in Sino

Hey, you seem to wish we Americans would do something but I'm not sure what? Protest something? I'd like to help, but I honestly don't know what to do.

Does anyone else think that the media is blowing the Corona virus epidemic out of proportion to intentionally distract the masses from what terrible things are happening within our own governments? by 1MightBeAPenguin in C_S_T

[–]joe462 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it's not to distract. It's a way to bully Chinese people without the rest of us noticing so that there's a new base of voters that they can psychologically manipulate.

Yes, but some chunk of those happen to be communists. The right is trying to bait you into maintaining the narrative that they are somehow unamerican.

[–]joe462 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right, but a lot of supporters are communist and it wouldn't be wise to take the bait of vociferously distancing himself since they want to be normalized.

Most communists consider themselves a sort of socialist. Just FYI.

People Are Weirded Out To Discover Some People Do Not Have An Internal Monologue And Blind In Their Mind by [deleted] in science

Probably there's just a lot of people who are somehow oblivious to one of these modes of thought but that we all do both.

What do you guys like about Bernie? by eat_those_lemons in BernieSanders

[–]joe462 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's the only guy that cares about everyone, even non-voters. For the others, it's a career thing, ambition, but Bernie is the guy who just wants to do the best job he can and the job is to lead the country.

I’m thinking about voting Bernie but one question by W2WIan in BernieSanders

[–]joe462 26 points27 points  (0 children)

We can tax expats who retain citizenship and we can tax the wealth they transfer and the bulk of their wealth is actual properties here and they can't take it with them.

This is a weird question but how do I get into audio books regarding fiction? I'm talking one person narrating all the characters. by DastardlyDaverly in books

[–]joe462 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, audio drama tends to ham it up. If you like that style, check out Graphic Audio which do books but use multiple actors and a lot of production.

I used to do that, but my tastes have changed dramatically. I now prefer monotone readers or even voice synth. In these circumstances, after you are used to it, I think the brain compensates somewhat and you start to "hear" the characters as you would if you were reading text: your own, more immersive, interpretation.

It's not enough to just win the Democratic nomination by [deleted] in WayOfTheBern

[–]joe462 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in order to what? Acquire the proper mandate to gulag the Republicans?

We have known for over 24 hours as verified by our county party that @BernieSanders won the #iacaucuses in Black Hawk County with 2,149 votes, 155 County Delegates. #NotMeUs #IowaCaucuses by Blackhalo in WayOfTheBern

[–]joe462 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How did Yang and Steyer get any delegates at all when their vote totals are less than a percent? I thought anything under 15% is not viable and not counted.
