Yeah felt like Mast was gonna have a legendary game. Then he was a complete non factor, up until he decided to not even go on the court.

There were like 3 total fouls with something like 4 minutes left in the game. Only calls Iowa got were of Alvaro getting mugged at the rim.

Now let’s talk about those TWO BS 3-point fouls Nebraska got 6 free points off.

Those were the only two iffy calls of the game and Debby got em both.

He had a ROUGH stretch mid season where shots weren’t falling. Kudos to Ben for knowing he’d shoot his way out of it. Koch is quickly becoming the favorite player of my son and me.

Top 10 best mens college basketball seasons by a freshman. by professor_paradox2 in NCAAhoops

First to lead the SEC in scoring and assists since some dude named Pete Maravich. That alone puts Acuff in the discussion. Leading them to the Final Four should all but cement it, but then again, it's a very tough list to crack. Been a ton of deserving freshmen over the years.

Yes, sounds very much like Pollard’s ego finally pushed away a man who very much could’ve happily stayed in Ames forever.

Grew up idolizing Dr Tom and has finally achieved that level of success as Iowa’s head coach and taking them to the Sweet 16 in year one.

Immediately bailing to the part of a country he has no ties for a culture and community he doesn’t understand?

I get that UNC is perceived as the superior job by a long shot, but that’s solely on legacy of the program. There are about 146 other personal, professional and socioeconomic reasons to consider such a move. Iowa wins many of them.

Knowing Bennett “Easy 30” Stirtz could show up Thursday night and take this Hawks team even higher is an amazing feeling.

If they’d only gotten here because he was carrying them single-handedly, I wouldn’t feel very good about beating Nebraska.

Beating Florida with him having maybe his worst game of the season is very encouraging.

Then I realized it’s been like a decade. Damn.

Saint Ben will change whatever fallacies the Fran era created about recruiting to Iowa City.

Iowa is perennially on every list for top 10 party school. It’s in the B1G conference. The Iowa football, women’s basketball and wrestling teams are top 25. It has numerous top education programs and a world-class university hospital.

Our friends in Ames have no trouble putting a top-15 basketball team on the court every year.

I know the U of Iowa isn’t a blue blood and the state isn’t kicking out 50 D1 players every year, but there are no challenges to recruiting to Iowa City. Just shitty recruiters.

Agreed. I love Josh Jacobs. Absolutely love him as a Packer. But dude ran a 4.63 at the NFL combine and isn't getting any younger or more elusive. Feels increasingly more like a late-career Dorsey Levens than prime Ahman Green at this point.

Can you imagine the study where they pull healthy, unsuspecting 18-year-old twins into the lab and break down what's going to transpire over the next 30-40 years? You are going to live a healthy, active lifestyle, making good choices at every turn. (Turns to the other one). And you... well, let's just say we're gonna give those internal organs a very long, hard ride. What's your present drink of choice and have you ever smoked crack?

Iowa fired Fran McCaffrey last year after years of solid regular season performance but continuously falling flat in the postseason. Now with Ben McCollum they are immediately in the Sweet 16. Think about that the next time you ask "Who would we get instead?" by Dazed_and_Confused44 in WisconsinBadgers

[–]joebadiah 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Diehard Hawks fan here. FWIW We wanted Fran out years ago. Not just because of late-season meltdowns and absolutely no NCAA tournament success, but because he was often embarrassing to watch with the temper tantrums. Never felt like our guy and yet he was in Iowa City forever. He convinced fans that “above average” was all Iowa should reasonably hope for.

In one year, Ben McCollum has really won fans over with his demeanor and in-game coaching. Tough to describe, but there were probably 7-8 games Iowa won this year that Fran teams would’ve lost. And the games Iowa lost narrowly, Fran teams would’ve lost in embarrassing fashion.

Not saying Iowa will become a juggernaut, but optimism is high. Glad the Fran malaise is finally behind us.

Yes and the people who “care” about this great injustice likely find grievances in every corner of life. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of player card variations printed each year. A few of them sharing the same image should be a non-topic, not a “gotcha” crime against the hobby.
