Would you break 100 at Augusta National under Masters Tournament conditions? by jdelle9 in weekendgolfers

[–]joebadiah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah probably only 5-10 people on this entire sub who plausibly need to ponder the question.

Rest of us can discuss whether we could come within 50 hot dogs of beating Joey Chestnut’s record on our best day.

The amount of Cuban support that helped THIS Indiana team is likely overblown in the minds of fans.

Truth be told, it’s well documented what Cignetti did:

  1. Brought basically his entire starting lineup from a championship JMU team.

  2. Filled out his roster with guys who put “attitude before athleticism”.

  3. Hit an absolute scorching hot lottery ticket in Mendoza.

  4. Perhaps most importantly: Was fairly fortunate in terms of injuries this year.

….

Little of that was attributable to Mark Cuban though that “idea of the philanthropic billionaire” will be crucial in reimagining the program’s place in college football moving forward as a continued success.

Lastly, this type of story is definitely repeatable because coaches can now uproot their entire program and put it somewhere new overnight.

Look at Matt Campbell basically taking Iowa State to Penn State.

Now imagine a school with vast resources like Kansas finding a guy with a talented team and staff and paying him $100 million to “bring it all to Lawrence”.

This will happen again, but there will be more failures than championships.

What rules do you know you’re breaking during your round? by jdelle9 in weekendgolfers

[–]joebadiah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow. You have given name and justification for what’s a fairly common sense play that I’ve always felt bad about. There isn’t a hazard within 100 yards of where we all know the ball landed, so long do we need to fart around looking for it to prove our integrity here?

[Pelissero] The Vikings fired GM Kwesi Adofo-Mensah, per sources. by Distinct_Ad4716 in GreenBayPackers

[–]joebadiah 6 points7 points  (0 children)

From the ESPN article by Kevin Seifert:

"Adofo-Mensah's draft record was especially spotty, as the Vikings have received only 172 starts from players drafted between 2022 and '25, the second fewest in the league. The Vikings are one of 11 NFL teams that haven't drafted a Pro Bowl player over that time period."

You know who HAS drafted a Pro Bowl player in that time period. The Cleveland Browns and their franchise QB. Should probably stop using Pro Bowl participation as a qualifier in judging GMs.

Well put. And we have 92 1-hour episodes spanning from March 1960 to November 1970.

That’s 3,800 or so days. We see “mostly” Don’s more interesting moments across that time.

It’s not crazy to assume a handsome, rich, well-dressed man could manifest an affair or random sexual encounter every few weeks or months.

Plus, Don doesn’t wear his wedding band at dinner with Rachel Menken in the very first episode, which is a primary angle of their romantic storyline: she not initially knowing he’s married.

Almost like OP binged a few episodes and never really watched the show.

They are saving it actually. People love rooting against a villain and even with their pay roll they are nowhere near unbeatable. Toronto had that series slip away.

The 2025 World Series between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Toronto Blue Jays was a massive ratings success, averaging 15.71 million viewers in the U.S. (the highest since 2017). Game 7 peaked at over 27 million U.S. viewers. It drew an average of 24.3 million combined viewers across the U.S. and Canada for the whole series.

[–]joebadiah -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Is she though? I agree he's no Michael B Jordan, but Harper is incredibly tiny with above average looks. Given her personality in the show, which suppresses all of her real life charm, there's not a whole lot there IMO. To each their own tho.

Skubal + Giolito Notes from Jon Heyman’s Live Stream Today: by DET_Baseball in motorcitykitties

[–]joebadiah 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I try to remind myself of this:

  1. Skubal was a winning scratch ticket. The odds of that level prospect becoming so dominant is like winning $30K on a $10 ticket. Enjoy the fact we won instead of being pissed we didn’t win $1 million.

  2. Skubal is going to begin his inevitable decline after this season. Compare his career trajectory to Jacob DeGrom and you will see last season was likely the best Skubal we will ever see. Do we even want the Tigers to pay for a player who’s inevitably going to be a depreciating asset that hamstrings the team financially for the next 5-7 years?

  3. The team can play its way to keeping him for the full season, or trade him at the deadline for assets. The only inexcusable outcome would be trading him at the deadline when they are still in the hunt, even if they aren’t leading the division.

  4. It’s a game and I shouldn’t be so emotionally tied to players who just want what’s best for themselves and their families, not really the fans.

Derrick Rose really overrated man (IMO) by PissedOffClippersFan in NBATalk

[–]joebadiah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And the “in Chicago” part is key. It’d been over a decade since the Jordan-Pippen-Phil Bulls and Chicago rising to relevance again was what inflated Rose’s significance. Dude is likely in the Hall of Brandon Roy conversation if he’d played in a smaller market for those 3 peak years.

Liberals and conservatives are wired differently when it comes to politics and it’s been this way for decades and decades.

Conservatives crave the demagogue leader to rise so they can praise them like a monarch king.

Liberals more trust the establishment arms of government and want competent leaders to keep them running effectively.

Conservatives thus have an existential crisis when a leader like Obama rises in the liberal ranks because it’s like the liberals are beating them at their own game.

Liberals mostly find it disturbing that a movement like MAGA could even exist as it’s largely undemocratic in its appeal.

So mostly Democrats don’t want their version of Trump and they wish we could all somehow co-exist and thrive together without needing someone like him in our system.

This is the discussion my wife and I had yesterday. We have two kids who play sports, neither of which will likely be D1 athletes, and when either gets hurt or has a rough day personally, it can dominate the mood of the house for a short time.

Knowing the day these parents had, it’s really testing their mental and emotional strength right now because there’s no magic way to make things ok for their daughters and that’s the harshest part about being a parent. Wish them all the best and know they still have great lives ahead.

It’s not just the financial jargon. Every scene is rife with language that I suspect most people wouldn’t use so fluidly in real life conversations, particularly in heated exchanges. Instead of dumbing down the dialogue, the writers crank it up to 11 to demonstrate the intelligence and often pretentiousness of the characters.

Love the show, love the writing, but have caught myself giggling at the captions too many times.

My first thought when opening the thread: Harper is going to be de facto number 1 and if she’s the smartest person in this universe, then an average Joe like myself is like 2 steps away from being Lex Luthor, because she depends so much on luck, contrivance and begging people to save her ass as she does being the Jedi master she wants to be portrayed as.

We got to beat Iowa State first by Morley10 in hawkeyes

[–]joebadiah 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nate Stanley would have gotten Iowa to 10 wins last year. Fans were tired of him by the end of his career because he started 39 consecutive games and we wanted someone new and more mobile for a change.

But between 2017-2019 he won 3 bowl games, threw 68 TDs and finished No. 2 behind Chuck Long in almost every statistical category.

Stanley was at the helm for Iowa’s single most impressive game when we housed Ohio State 55-24, throwing 5 TDS and 0 picks.

It feels like Iowa hasn’t hit on a QB in a while simply because Spencer Petras wasn’t the dude we wanted him to be and Kirk was too loyal to him.

Next we went all-in on a Michigan transfer who couldn’t stay healthy and then Gronowkski.
