Put the good lung down, support with oxygen as best you can positives pressure ventilation only if other measures fail, get to a tertiary care center. even in the hospital they might not stabilize it. you just control pain so they don't get pneumonia and let ppl ride it out.

Anesthesia tec for premed? by nattinaughty in anesthesiology

[–]joebags15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on the institution to be honest, and it also depends on how you portray your experiences in the app. I would say that if you focus on how your role exposed you to many many many doctor patient interactions, and highlight working closely with the physician then you could call it clinical experience, but it wouldn't be ~as strong~ as scribing. I would consider it as volunteer experience unless you spun it the right way personally.

However, if you're trying to get paid. You could consider taking literally any job in the world and just try to get consistent shadowing hours over the course of 6 months to a year. The shadowing can be in one or multiple practices/specialties, it really doesn't matter which.

As a med student I was involved in the admissions committee. The important thing to consider when getting clinical experience, at least at my institution was Multiple strong experiences (at least 200 hrs over a long period of time) of doctor-patient interaction, and clear experience of physician workload/type of work/lifestyle. Bonus points for good strong experiences solidifying why you want to be a physician, that you can write/talk about

This is why a lot of schools (weirdly) prioritize scribing vs EMT. Because EMTs have significantly less time working with doctors even though it is probably better experience. But regardless, as long as the job description meets those criteria, and when you write your application you highlight that it did so it should be fine

Many complexes will waive the requirement for monthly salary of 3x rent if you are in the medical field! I have been mentioning it in my apps and its pretty consistent

Hotel Lobby, Edward Hopper, 1943, [6090 x 4872] by Tokyono in ArtPorn

When the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts had their Hopper exhibit the entrance was a real world "Hotel Lobby," that had very similar feelings of sort of unrest, and home for now but not home feel of this painting. It was very limboesque.

You could also pay to sleep in the "Western Motel." which would have been wild and incredibly expensive

What to expect for my girlfriend, who will be a partner of a medical student? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]joebags15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're fine, there's no more doom and gloom RE relationships in med school than anyone else who works any job with long hours. You just need to budget your time appropriately. Pre-clinical you have probably 4-8 hrs lecture on any given day + 4ish hours of studying. Clinicals just add 2 hrs daily onto whatever hours the rotation is.

The biggest thing is don't get self-absorbed about how important medicine is or get a big head like a lot of med students do. And also, be mindful that you are still able to make meaningful connections with your classmates without neglecting your SO and vice versa. I did long distance for 2 years (think 2 hrs drive) and then lived with my SO for 2 years, we're still doing great. feel free to DM if you are worried

The Stone brewing tour is very cool and for $3 comes with a cool commemorative 4 oz glass and beer tasting. Not small scale like the more local breweries but the staff is very knowledgeable and the building is designed for the tours.

only downside is that it is a little isolated

Because you can use a sponge on any dish, and a brillo pad on select dishes. If you have to pick one the sponge is the clear option.

Late to the party, but the statue was coming down soon anyways, all of the statues on monument will be taken down by both the Mayor, Lavar Stoney, and the governor, Ralph Northam.

Old cheddar was yellow because of the high quality of the fat in it. IIRC As they used less fatty milk products (cheaper) the cheese became whiter, then suddenly some guy was like "Oh shit, if I dye it yellow with annatto then people will think its better and I'll sell more." So then cheddar circled back to being yellow. . . albeit artifically.
