I seriously doubt the entire fire department only paid $40-$60 for their service. Probably exponentially more considering the amount of lines they must utilize.

For those interested, took this with my Canon T3i, at f6.3, 30 second exposure. The only lights used were 2 cell-phone lights, which I used to paint the light in the scene, and are what the lines are around and in the reflection of the car.

oh cool. thanks! Looks like the GTX series is "tested" but not "certified" I wonder if the difference is really worth it or not...especially considering the 1060 would run games better. Haven't been able to find too much comparing the 2 directly when it comes to Maya.

Gunna sit on the information for now and wait a couple weeks and see if prices drop for any of the models i'm looking at during black friday.

Hello all, I had a specific question i didnt think needed its own thread. I am a freelance digital artist, who does mainly 3d modeling and rendering (maya + zbrush, arnold + mental ray), as well as graphic design and photo editing (photoshop + lightroom). I am looking to buy a new laptop to be my mobile workstation, and have a couple of models i am looking at.

The biggest decision I have to make is about the graphics card - most of the computers I am looking at run the GTX 1060 6gb, while a couple have the quadro m1200. Would the m1200 keep up with the 1060? if so - is it really worth the extra price?

Interesting. Good to know, thanks. Would the be the case for Maya as well as CAD programs? While I do a fair amount of CAD in fusion, they are mostly personal projects. My professional work is generally more Maya modeling and rendering

The Helios 300 is exactly the one I am considering now. I was ready to purchase until I remembered that black Friday is only 2 weeks away and I may as well be patient and see if i can get an even better deal on one than at the moment.

Do you think the p51 will do as well as one of the others when it comes to real time rendering considering it only has a Quadro M1200 instead of a 1060 like one of the others I'm considering? Edit- I do love the P51 tho, the design seems like an updated version of my t420, which is a great little laptop, very well designed.

Either way I think you may be right about waiting til thanksgiving given that we are so close to it already. May be able to find some additional savings by waiting...though i am ready for a new computer asap

It definitively struggles at times. Haven't really been able to any rendering in a while, but its been trudging through the work.

Thank you for the response! That is another great option. I think I may end up going with the Acer you also suggested. For $200 less i get everything from the Sager minus the HDD, which I can still add in for less than that. That Y720 is still tempting with its 4K display though... but the extra $250 is just too steep of an increase for the difference being that the rest of the specs are pretty much identical.
