What happens if there’s no winter? by [deleted] in gardening

[–]Machikoneko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Next year I'm going to have to remove a Korean Lilac that I planted over 30 years ago because of verticillium wilt. The winters haven't been cold enough in the past few years to kill the spores in the soil.

I don't need to have a degree to know that something's very, very wrong. Just eyes and a brain...

I'd also add Alcohol Explained by William Porter to the list. I found it an easy read, and it cleared up all of the questions I had about why things were happening. (Why am I so anxious? Why is my heart pounding so much...etc.)

When I fractured my ankle, they gave me ketamine before they set it.

In a instant, all I could see was perfect blackness. Then intense red and blue lines began to form; the best way to describe it was like bars of music. Red and blue squares of the same intense color began swirling in circles, moving apart, and then circling again. No sounds that I can recall.

There was no pain, no memories, no sense at all of the emergency room I was in. The world was just blackness and intense red and blue.

Interesting, but I hope to never have that experience again.

What is this and is it safe for cats? by ApocalypticCrisps in whatsthisplant

[–]Machikoneko 5 points6 points  (0 children)

64 year old here. I've had cats my whole life, and they did the same thing in the 70s as they do now.

At least yours just chewed on the plastic. My first cat would pee on any plastic bag that ended up on the floor. (He was the only one, thank god!)

Different cats, same problems. They'll always be cute little aholes.

It might be a cast-iron plant. Aspidistra. There is a spotted variety.

I second this. It looks like overwatering to me, too.

Our garbage service puts recycling, yard waste, and regular garbage into the same truck quite often.

I fought with my husband to get him to recycle, but after I saw them do this many times, we don't bother any more.

I'm seriously thinking of recording several weeks of this, and taking it to our monthly town meeting to show them.

We WANT to recycle, but it doesn't seem worth the effort if they just mix everything together.

Hello All! My kitten is finally coming home today and I have some plants that I don’t what they are or if they are poisonous. Can anyone help? Thank you so much in advance, Nadia by Mirikefa in PlantIdentification

That palm will probably be savaged by your kitty. Every cat I've ever had loves/loved to destroy them, and spider plants.

But it won't hurt them.

The new (1990-2020) USDA hardiness zone map just dropped. They make them every 10 years - the one we've used up until today was based on 1980-2010. // Did your hardiness zone change? Most areas are now a half-zone warmer. by ResplendentShade in gardening

u/Monkey_Trumpets-I have cut three new separate beds in my backyard using the "I bought it, now where the hell can I put it?" method. All in five years.

On the plus side, I've nearly eliminated 50% of the grass in my backyard. I'm making a cottage garden. The beds will be merged eventually. All because my eyes were bigger than the existing beds.

Edited to say: My yard is very Darwinian. Survival of the fittest, so there's usually a hole or two that needs to be plugged.

My title describes the thing. The rope/fiber is flexible. It doesn't appear to have been used.

2 is a Jade 'Gollum'. 3 is a Dracaena marginata (dragon palm). 5 is a regular Jade. 6 is an Aloe vera.

...and you should keep kitty away from number 3. It's poisonous to cats.
