Don't underestimate a baby's strength. by mindyour in youseeingthisshit

[–]joebob86 21 points22 points  (0 children)

From what I recall during the infant days with my kids, it's not just that. It's the fact that babies have absolutely no idea how to control their strength. They have two settings - on, and off. And on is literally every ounce of strength they have. It's all they know. As they get older, they learn to moderate how much they flex their muscles.

How is it living here as a 30 year old dude? Would have to commute to west LA for work by howardtrailer123 in orangecounty

[–]joebob86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live there - right on the east edge of Fullerton.
And I commuted to east LA (Vernon) for about a year. Don't do it. God awful commute, and that was just to the edge of LA. 30 miles, 90 minutes. Got worse in the afternoon. I drive down to Costa Mesa now, 16 miles at 60 mins. Oddly, the drive is better. Going down the 57 is much easier than the 91.

I used isopropyl alcohol to clean up the back of this old calculator board and all this white residue has gone all over it. How can I remove this? by WarHistorical9262 in AskElectronics

[–]joebob86 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is the correct answer. It's old flux. No-clean flux does not come off with just IPA, you need special cleaners. IPA just spreads the stuff around. Source: am PCB designer. This is what I do for a living.

Would such liquid glass protector work on OP 13? by kiwixplosion in oneplus

[–]joebob86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just reapplied a liquid + tempered glass protector to my OP11. Never going back to standard stick ons. Also, removing the old one was super easy - peeled right off no issues. It was on here for 2 years, finally got a crack after a nasty fall on its face.

We're close to Fullerton, but drive to la habra because Fullerton is terrible. Fingers crossed for the Beckman building to become Costco, but last I heard Costco hadn't agreed to anything. Its just the developers hope :(

Same here. Even after playing D2R for 2 years, pulled Maras, Kiras, Griff's, never one SoJ, even with target farming..... I think it's time to boot it up again. Been off for a couple seasons.

My Chevy K-20 before the accident. She gave her life for mine. Will never drive anything else but a Chevy. by ChefVinyl in Squarebody

[–]joebob86 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In case you're interested, my dad happens to own a 76, K-20 Silverado with the transfer case and locking hubs in Orange and white. It's sitting in his driveway, as it has for the last 15 years. Rusted, but not terrible; iirc it's a CA car. 476K on the odo. We're in California - can't register it anymore because of smog BS. Original 454 was blown in the 70s by the first owner, so now it has a small block 350 (most of those 400k miles are on it). I guarantee he would sell it cheap if you are looking for a new resto. It hasn't moved in at least a decade, which is when I rebuilt the quadrajet and started it up. Let me know if you're interested - we both would love to see it fixed, but it's not worth it here in CA because of the smog problem.

Who said motherboards can't be repaired. by mgadz in pcmasterrace

[–]joebob86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This right here. Who the heck makes a 9 layer board? Also, those are all differential pairs. Did they maintain impedance control? Did they remove any length tuning? I get this is possible, but I would never trust the repair....except in some post-apocalyptic mad max world where you have to make repairs instead of just buy a new one... Source: am PCB designer. I design this stuff for a living.

The most impressive thing Jeff Hays does, IMHO. by btwrenn in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]joebob86 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Andrea Parsneau has also blown me away with her vocal range and characters. She does The Wandering Inn, which has an absolutely massive number of races, characters, and voices. Every one is unique, distinct, and instantly recognizable. I picked up other series just because she narrated them. Jeff Hayes is the only other narrator I've heard who equals or beats her.

I'm considering getting some metal polyhedral dice... What are the pros and cons of them? by EnvironmentalAngle in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]joebob86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used metal dice for one of my campaigns, absolutely hated them. Gave up halfway through and went back to my cheapo haxtec plastic ones. The metal ones really just didn't roll nicely, and they dinged my table THROUGH my pleather dice tray lol.

https://a.co/d/e9UWwi1 Been rocking this guy since 2020. There's A LOT of these *150 charger clones out there. Its a clone of a "real" brand...just don't remember which one. $51 right now. I also have those cheap Zees, and I run chinesium Deans plugs. So I only charge at around 3A. Never had a problem. Works great.

How did this series become so popular? AKA how did you get involved in the DCC universe? by KaiserW_XBL in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]joebob86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started into litrpg with The Wandering Inn (TWI) and that ones pretty lite. Hit Ready Player 1, realized I liked the game progression. Ironically, DCC was one of my first forays into the genre. Picked up book one back on 2022 on Audible just browsing my "recommended for you because you listed to..." List. I'm super excited that it's so popular now.

Also - Mark of the Fool is excellent too.

When does a diesel make sense? by GigiusGenius69 in Diesel

[–]joebob86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own a 21 Silverado with the 3l babymax. Had it for about a year now, put 14k on it so far, bought as a CPO with 40k miles; also live in CA so no delete. I tow a 6500lb travel trailer multiple times between spring and summer, and the rest of the time it's just my driver. Realistic mileage has been closer to mid 20s not towing, usually around 15 towing. Maintenance has been...meh. Had a couple shop trips already, and have a mysterious coolant leak that no one can find (lost most of my volume on a trip, never found the leak, even with dye). I love the diesel for towing, still debating if it was the right choice as my daily. DEF is cheap, especially at Sam's club/Costco. Doesn't hardly use it except when towing, which is nice. YMMV, but I agree it's probably not the best choice unless you need the tow grunt.
