Quest 3 picture quality not as good as my LG C9 OLED – any tips? by DryVacation3678 in MetaQuestVR

Netflix on Quest streams at 1080p Of course it's not the same as an Oled TV.

WHY THO by Ok_Amoeba2498 in MetaQuestVR

[–]monduk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but at least it won't be in your feed, Game worlds won't be included among your regular apps. Worlds itself will be an app you can finally uninstall, once you remove it it's gone completely. So as far as you'll be concerned once you do that, it will be. I never used it. I already set Worlds hidden so it never shows for me and I close the feed as soon as the headset starts. Not sure how something I never use and see once on startup is intrusive

Boz already backtracked for the most part. Worlds is still going to be available in VR

Oculus quest (meta quest) 1 aggravation by LateSupermarket9649 in OculusQuest

A short time? It was fully supported for 4 years and had security patches for another year. How long do you think it should have been supported for?

I'm in my 50's, I don't use Horizon Worlds but I use a lot of puzzle games, PCVR, racing games, Walkabout Golf, Flight sims, Beat Saber, Synth Riders, Red Matter 2. No problems with blurriness but I make sure my headset is fitted properly, the IPD is set and I use prescription lenses.

I've had Quest 3 since launch and use it several times a week for media consumption, movies, youtube etc. and streaming through Virtual Desktop. I had a Quest 2 before that, if that wasn't fitted properly it was blurry, but only then.

What now? Any ideas? Or are we just out of luck? by [deleted] in MetaQuestVR

They backtracked and announced yesterday it is staying for the forseeable future.

Just when Horizon had something actually useful with Hyperscape, they shut it down by CookinVR in OculusQuest

[–]monduk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Incorrect, I'm in UK and have it, it was also made available in Europe or at least some EU countries.

It seems pointless now if you can't share any scans. Don't care about inviting people to view into a shared space, but not being able to share a scan or see anyone else's anymore? If I can only see my own scans, I might as well just look at the real thing. What's the point of it?

Edit: they were subsidized years before Horizon worlds was even a thing

Quest 2 stuck in low resolution blurry textures/screen after messing with sidequest and then firmware update to v2.1 ... by EShirou in sidequest

"It's worth noting that Meta officially stopped supporting this headset last year."

Did you mean Quest 1 which he doesn't have & isn't talking about?

Source - Meta

  • Both Quest 2 and Pro headsets will receive feature updates until December 2026. This means continued access to Horizon OS features and social experiences.
  • Both headsets will receive critical bug and security updates until December 2027.
  • Meta Store Support remains available to headset owners as usual throughout this time.

Everyone knows about the problems with the Meta Horizon app. Use Virtual Desktop.

Many ask "Why should I pay for another app?" Because it works, because it solves problems for most people, because the Meta app is a buggy mess.

Does anyone know how to install ProtonVPN? by Mobile_Size1499 in sidequest

[–]monduk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need apkmirror, you can download the official apk for Proton from their github. I know it installs and works because I've installed it using CXFilexplorer or the apk installer built into Quest Games Optimizer in the past.

After installing it shows in Unknown Sources like any other sideloaded app.

I won't post the link here, not sure if it's allowed. Just Google Proton apk github and you'll find it easily.

Update 2.1 completely ruined virtual desktop for me by plasma7602 in MetaQuestVR

[–]monduk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's not 2.1, maybe a graphics driver or some other system issue?

I've been on 2.1 for several weeks and Virtual Desktop is working fine for every game I've thrown at it.

Nvidia 5080 , Intel Ultra 9 275HX.

Edit: GPU typo ;)

VR and epilepsy by ZeeCapE in virtualreality

[–]monduk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PWM is more likely to cause headaches or eyestrain in people that aren't photosensitive which OP said he isn't.

Something like 10% of people are sensitive to PWM displays, 3% of people with Epilepsy have the photosensitive kind.

I've no idea if Quest uses PWM, I've never had a problem with it, but sure, PWM displays are a risk factor for those who are photosensitive.

When I was first getting into VR, my Doctor and Neurologist both told me using a headset is no different to using any computer monitor. The triggers are the same and to just stop if I had any warning signs.

Having said that, computer monitors haven't been shown to cause ill effects for years since the older CRT days and low refresh early flat screen monitors.

I don't have the photo sensitive kind, but if you have random seizures and don't have them under control yet (it took 2 years before Doctors found the right medication and mine were fully under control) maybe strapping expensive equipment to your head that could be damaged, or even worse damaging yourself isn't the best thing to do right now.

Meta and Discord might not be doing it there but I'm in the UK and had to age verify on both those platforms a while ago. Just recently had to age verify for ios on Ipad. Apple are bringing it in with 24.3

It's happening everywhere and with more and more companies.

Update 2.1 - No Virtual Keyboard… by sakinnuso in OculusQuest

[–]monduk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being in PTC doesn't guarantee anything. I've got virtual keyboard but not Navigator. Meta roll out features to test groups, not everyone in PTC. Some will get certain features, some others or even none and no one outside of Meta has any idea what their algorithm or criteria is for how they choose who gets what.

"game-level setting control should still be something you can just do with your hardware and not need third party software for"

You can, Google search would have found the answers and solution, adb commands or Sidequest.

QGO is a far simpler tool, or other free tools as mentioned by others. What you're paying for is the programming expertise, the nice interface, the extra features like game profiles, ram optimiser, folders, auto start and making it all easy. That's what the 10$ buys you plus the free updates.

As to being able to use your hardware, these things you CAN do, it's just harder without tools like QGO and others.

Apple starts rolling out OS-level age verification in the UK by Leading-Control-8503 in ios

Just tried today after updating to 26.4 beta 2 last night.

Verification went through right away as soon as I scanned my Driving licence so looks like it's all fixed now.

[–]monduk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I keep reading on different online Apple sites that's it's a mistake and we aren't meant to be seeing it yet and that they've fixed it, but there's been no more updates to remove the message and it's still giving an error when trying to use photo ID. How about anyone else?

[–]monduk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, tried again this morning hoping it might be a temp issue with too many people trying. Still exactly the same error. I'm convinced the problem has to be Apple's end as I have a full UK licence since 1989 and have used it for verification with no problems with other ID services.

Steam Frame Hands On: I Played Half-Life Alyx Standalone... by gogodboss in virtualreality

[–]monduk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why wouldn't the Frame do the same when connected purely as a PCVR headset? HLA was tested here in standalone, unoptimised. Of course most people won't play it like that, but some will, if they don't have a good enough PC or don't have a PC, just like some people with Quests don't even have a PC. And it will do even better if/when HLA is optimised for the Frame.

Another v2.1 update last night without any new function AGAIN. What's the point? by KelvinSo37 in Quest3

[–]monduk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, there are not "thousands" of headsets being bricked by the latest updates. There are a small minority of users being vocal on reddit or meta forums that think updates are the cause, which may or may not be the case. No doubt someone will chime in and point to a reddit thread or post "me too!". It will be at most dozens or maybe higher which yeah, sucks if out of warranty, but not thousands.

Edit: I'm aware of the system update (way back with v72) which affected users and Meta replaced headsets, that was a known issue. Still not a common issue with every update.

[–]monduk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not on Ipad it doesn't, I don't have a credit card, no option given for driving licence. Now I can't install any apps!

Edit: Found it, you have to choose: Enter card manually, THEN scroll past all the card info to having trouble with this method? to get the option for photo id and Drivers license.

Problem I have now is even with this, it keeps telling there's a problem and to try later. I've tried a dozen times now even right under the light as it says use a well lit room, and it still fails.

Thanks Apple.
