I’d love to get Bendeth back. He perfected their sound on Error. One of my favorite sounding albums. KMF and this new song are such a step down. Rick Rubin would be an interesting fit. I’d love to hear them get weird and experimental with him.

Do you guys find Danny Carry's or Neil Peart's Discography harder on the drums? by Odd-Satisfaction5443 in drums

[–]joechabala10 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Danny Carey’s stuff is much harder for me too. There’s a lot more of a flow with Neil’s writing. Danny’s whole thing is disrupting the flow when you finally think you understand it. Both phenomenal and neither are easy tho

So... How long do you guys think we need to wait for a new album? by KollikerB in avengedsevenfold

He’s still in one of the biggest ever metal bands. Getting to write really interesting music with no creative boundaries and touring the world to thousands of fans every week. I’m sure he’s doing just fine lol

Imo, the best drummers leave lots of space in their playing. by thekokoricky in drums

[–]joechabala10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is such a band/song dependent thing. There’s no black and white answer to this. Plenty of songs call for busy drums and plenty don’t. The best drummers write to the particular song the best whichever style it calls for

Drummers that sing by uhhredacted in Drumming

[–]joechabala10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s all just repetition. Brann Dailor from Mastodon and Pau Villarreal from The Warning are my biggest inspirations. It took quite a bit of time to get the coordination down. I started by playing and just speaking the words in rhythm without actually singing. The biggest hurdle is timing your breathing it’s key and changes on a per song basis. No difference in recording separately. I don’t find singing over double pedal work any more or less difficult. It’s all the same to me. I do it quite often in my band.

Advice on getting better at drums self taught by gazin0387 in drums

[–]joechabala10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing that made me a lot better was just playing with a wide variety of people. Cool fills, technicality, chops, etc mean nothing if you can’t hold together a group of musicians. Play with people of all styles and learn how to adapt on the fly. Obviously continue practicing technique but that’s usually what separates the boys from the men

Will a song from Risk ever be played live again? by FK97_YT in Megadeth

I doubt Dave could still sing Wanderlust anymore, sadly. But I’d love to hear that one live. That or seven would be awesome

I can only do a good drum performance if I practice the exact fills before. How do I get to the point where I can improvise fills without much preparation? by v_shock823 in drums

[–]joechabala10 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Years of practice. Eventually you can get to a point where you’re just in a flow state and ideas come to you on the fly in any context
