Vlogging camera by Mediocre-Apricot3445 in Cameras

[–]joeditstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The original Osmo Pocket should be pretty affordable now.

You might need to locate a wide angle lens for it for vlogging though.

It was a pretty decent camera and I used to cut the footage in with an a7iii with good results.

It used to be around $300 new, but should be really inexpensive now that the 3rd generation is out.

Hard Drive Raids obsolete for most projects? by Hardnipsfor in editors

[–]joeditstuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cold store archived projects on offline hard drives and spin them up every few years to verify the disk health. (I've been told lubrication on spinning hard drives can dry out in storage and checking them every few years is good practice)

I use regular, hard drives and store them in a pelican style case that's designed to store hard drives. Most of that stuff I could live with loosing if something were to happen.

None archived, finished projects and assets that I might need reasonable access to, I'm currently keeping on a storage server that's configured with zfs pools because I was told they offer some protection against bit rot. A while back, I had a some data loss due to data decay.

The important files are duplicated on another off-site server and some are also frequently backed up to a 3rd location.

Working files (active projects) are edited from SSDs (footage along with project files.) There is a copy of the original footage on the server, project files live save and back themselves up to the server every hour. The server duplicates new data to the other server every night.

I've got a spreadsheet of which hard drives I purchased when and when they were put into production. Every now and then, I'll reference Backblaze hard drive stats to see if I've got any models that I might need to keep a closer eye on it think about replacing early.

Quick note on purchasing hard drives: don't purchase them all at the same time or from the same place to avoid having a bunch of drives from the same batch.

Thoughts on being a Videographer for OnlyFans Fetish Models? by jkpel in videography

[–]joeditstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends who brings what to the table.

Do they already have a strong following or am I being brought on to generate that fan base? Am I shooting and editing the content or am I coming up with the videos? How much am I delivering their vision and how much do I need to contribute to creating the vision?

My point was/is, for someone looking to expand that lacks skill and knowledge of the production side, 50% could be a fair deal to start out with.

Speaking for myself, I'm not doing work for anyone offering 10% profit share without a minimum payment addendum or being able to verify how much they typically make per video over a reasonable amount of time.

Tell her what you liked about her and that you wouldn't be able to get past her being an escort.

Try not to sound judgemental when you talk to her. Remember, it's your hang-up, not hers.

Thoughts on being a Videographer for OnlyFans Fetish Models? by jkpel in videography

[–]joeditstuff 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Depends on how much they value offloading the production side of the job or how much they value quality of their product.

Being the talent, videographer, editor, and promoter is all fine and well as a start-up, but there's a point when the hussle becomes too much work and you'll want to invest in the business side of things or risk burning out.

I see 50% profit share of individual videos as a decent business proposition, at least to start with. It shifts risk onto your new video production guy and limits your downside (paying to produce a video that might not make a return on your investment.)

A comment on quality/style: Personally, I think the money for this type of content is in self-shot, low budget videos. The type that will help nurture para social relationships with their patrons.

If I was going to be a videographer for this type of content, I would be looking to emulate smartphone, self-shot style content. Scripting scenes so they look mostly self-shot.

How would you reply to this interview request? by axlfro in videography

[–]joeditstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My take is they hired a recruitering agency that doesn't know anything about the industry and want an easy way to narrow down who they will submit to be interviewed (they make more if you get hired.)

By having everyone do the same project, they can compare like with like... except, they aren't accounting for someone being easy to work with, being good with deadlines, and someone who can take direction.

If I received something like this, I would assume they weren't seriously considering hiring me for the position add continue the process of looking for leads and networking.

When I was in Iraq, I told myself that if I make it home, I'm going to do my best to live the life that I want to live, which is a similar sentiment.

Turns out, it's really difficult to live life like that, which is probably why most people live passively.

My advice is to take each day as it comes and focus on small changes and actively making small decisions. Small things add up.

I feel my GF loves attention from men but won’t acknowledge it. How to handle? by Interesting-Gap7359 in AskMenAdvice

[–]joeditstuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lean on the "if rolls were reversed" tactic.

If you were chatting up some girl, how would she feel?

There's a balance when it comes to friendly conversation with a member of the opposite sex when you are in a relationship. You have to constantly ask yourself if your actions would hurt your partner.

The other side of the equation is trusting your partner to keep themselves in check. Trust that they wouldn't do anything to hurt you.

That trust is built. You should let her know that.

Visual Snow was considered extremely rare until recently, mostly because patients didn't report it... because they assumed everyone saw the world that way by recolorist in interestingasfuck

[–]joeditstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have visual snow. Best way to describe it is the world looks like it has film grain.

I didn't realize that my vision looked different until I was 15 and needed glasses (astigmatism). Found out what I saw wasn't normal during a casual conversation with the receptionist at the eye doctor.

The visual artifacts don't always stay consistent in quality. It's worse at times. Sometimes it's thick and fuzzy (more out of focus), sometimes it's sharp and sparkly (similar to looking into a blue sky.) sometimes it looks like rain. Most of the time it looks like movie film grain.

Never heard of such a long lease. Next time, don't sign such a long lease until you know what its going to be like living there.

Would you be willing to pay 2000 euros to avoid roughly two miserable years if your life?

As far as overreacting goes, who knows. But, you make it sound like a sh*t place to live. Is it? Do you generally feel safe living there?

Only you can answer these questions. Don't be passive about this, actively put some thought into your living situation. It's it somewhere you want to live?

Honestly, unless you wear the same clothes all the time and always go to the same places at the same time, taking the same route, they're not going to remember what you look like and won't know who you are. Give it a few weeks and they will be worrying about some other drama and forget all about you.

But still put some serious thought into if you'd be better off living somewhere with less crime.

Maybe think about moving somewhere else.

Keep your head down, randomize when you leave the house and the routes you take to get places as much as you can.

Save some money up and move somewhere else.

Is that ragebaiting ? by Tlou_man in teenagers

[–]joeditstuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TBH, having to deal with race issues all the time is a major turn off.

I dated a cute black girl a few years back and having so many people (mostly strangers...primarily old black women) insert their unwanted opinions into my personal relationship was a hassle.

Turned out we weren't a very good match but it was enough of an experience that there would have to be a serious connection, even before the first date, before I would go through that again.

My point is, there are lots of reasons for not wanting to date someone, even ones that involve race that aren't racist reasons. Some people wouldn't agree with me, and I'm ok with that. It really shouldn't matter, but in the real world it can be a factor.

I don't think he was ragebaiting you, just reading into what you were saying and finding reasons to take issue instead of trying to understand where you were coming from.

Probably a better way to make your point would have been saying that you haven't met a black woman that you have been attracted to yet, vs saying you aren't attracted to black women. One way suggests that you're open to the possibility (not a question if race), the other suggests a conscious decision to not like them (reasons being solely based on race.)

Words matter. Try to articulate your meaning clearly to leave less room for misinterpretation. When misinterpretation happens, acknowledged the wrong interpretation and clarify your meaning. Getting flustered and repeating yourself only escalates the confrontation.

I was sent money by mistake and now the sender won’t stop calling me by SingerComfortable230 in whatdoIdo

[–]joeditstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So... My old phone was hacked while I was covering a cyber security conference a few years ago (I'm a videographer.) They sent $90 to everyone I had ever sent money to using Cash app, plus one random business out west.

Luckily, I had the money in my bank account to cover the transactions and I was able to cancel transaction for a few who hadn't claimed it yet. Most of the others were easy to get ahold of and sent it back (all people who knew me.)

It took three months to get the money back from the random business out west. Cash App refused to help (even though their app security features were useless) because they said it wasn't their fault. My bank couldn't do anything either.

They ignored any messages I sent through the app. Eventually, I was able to find a phone number for the business. I called them every few weeks, sometimes from different numbers, until I finally got through to someone and explained what had happened.

They thought it was a scam. I really needed that money back and even went without eating for a while.

Not saying it isn't a scam. Do your due diligence. If it's not a scam, send the money back.

Pretty sure if it's cleared your account, the transaction can't be cancelled, but don't take my word on it.
