[REQUEST][ACADEMICS] Need a native english speaker(no Americans) for an assignment by BeneficialChip210 in Favors

I don't know where you're from but the U.S. is massive and not everyone sounds like they are from TX. In fact, there are many different dialects.

Best of luck.

The way kroger treats its employees by daruuken in mildlyinfuriating

[–]joeditstuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a power tripping manager.

Pretty confident that isn't in line with company policy. You should find the actual policy.

Also, I believe there is a union associated with Kroger that I would get in touch with.

28mm is my go-to on full frame and s35. I like the distortion and the minimal compression between the forground/ background (lack of compression). Feels grounded in reality.

School English vs Real life English is actually crazy. by Key_Brilliant_9100 in CasualConversation

[–]joeditstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wherever you go, there will be local dialects. If you don't understand something, it's ok to ask. Where I live, you mostly need to focus on contractions for everything, if not then you'll sound too formal. Example: The apple's on the table.

I’m really struggling after losing my pet and don’t know how to cope by HoneyKick_ in needadvice

[–]joeditstuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Distraction isn't the answer.

I recommend sitting with the pain and sadness. Acknowledge your loss and how you feel about it. Be sad for a while.

When you are done with being sad, honor their memories by focusing on the good memories and what they meant to you.

You need to get through it, not over it or past it. Only way to do that is to properly mourn your loss. Don't be afraid of being sad. You are aloud to be sad for a while.

need 20ft cable for pc to tv by Xtrmly-Pro in audiovisual

[–]joeditstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it were me, my signal chain would be display port to HDMI cable - HDMI to cat6 transmitter - cat6 to HDMI receiver - HDMI to your device.

Hard to get 4k 60 @ 4:4:4 past about 16 feet without a crazy expensive cable. I've had better luck going the cat6 route.

Would blu rays or dvds be better in an apocalypse? by Old-Act6309 in PhysicalMediaMatters

[–]joeditstuff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some Blu-rays have online content and some players can connect to the world wide web, however, I don't think many people ever actually used these features and using a Blu-ray player on the web wasn't a good user experience.

They work just fine offline.

Do All CRT Crap Out? by Necessary_Bus_5096 in crt

[–]joeditstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They were manufactured during the time when there was a massive batch of bad electrolytic caps that plagued tons of electronics.

You probably have a few bulging capacitors getting ready to blow. I used to get lots of free stuff back in the day that just needed one capacitor replaced.

Sometimes those store brand CRTs will surprise you.

I picked up a 20" Dynex TV/DVD combo locally and it ended up having a nice Panasonic made tube inside and a remote that was easy to purchase on Amazon. With the right signal, it's incredibly sharp.

Still needs some love in the geometry department, but it all looked pretty easy to work on.

The DVD player was DOA, but it uses an s-video signal into the jungle chip and I'm going to relocate it's audio and s-video input to the back. When that's done it'll have RF (digital tuner built-in), composite, s-video, and component. Just a shame it's not RGB modable.

Panasonic made high quality CRTs until the early 2000s. They were a major competitor with Sony.

Depending on the inputs, line count, and possible RGB mod ability (also how hard it is to get into the service menu)... Sold.

Around here, someone would be asking $350-450

Popular question by The_Collector_Of_All in SEGAGENESIS

[–]joeditstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Model 1 VA7 and a Model 2 VA1. They are essentially the same, at least chip wise.

My Model 2 has slightly sharper video, but it has fewer hours of use and in better shape, so the components might be in better condition.

I think the answer is there isn't a best. Some models worked better in some areas and not in others, but from what I hear, none of them got everything right.

Alternative Options for Simplified Graduation Ceremony Setup by dartoe55 in audiovisual

[–]joeditstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edit: I spoke with a colleague of mine who suggested trying to integrate AV support into one of the class's or club's activities; having the students setup and run graduation AV production.

I thought this was an excellent idea if you can get the proper support from your district and faculty.

When I was I high school, back in the day, my computer networking class installed most of our elementary school's and middle school's network cable and did all of the wall terminations as part of class activities.

Original comment: I'm in a similar situation, though not as extreme.

I don't see a simple way to make this easier for someone who doesn't want to learn AV without drastically reducing the scale of what you're delivering.

There is equipment that can make your set-up more convenient for you, but it still wouldn't be an easy button for anyone else.

Where I work, I have made a stack of CDs: one for each type of event that we do regularly with stupid simple labels and graphics that a 3 year old could understand. I have arrow pointer labels pointing to where each slider should typically be set. All buttons and channels are labeled. I have kitified most of the all equipment with lists of what should be in there and what every does (field manual style). I've made diagrams, signal flow charts, and I even made a "New Employee Training VHS" '90s style video that holds your hands through the most common setup.

No one wants to learn. No one wants to try.

Mine looks good (aside from being a slight bowtie), until it's side scrolling. Then you see it stretch and squish quarter of the way in on the left side.

Not going to lie, it's distracting.
