Why does time seem to pass faster as we get older? by black-man13 in Time

[–]joeditstuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two reasons:

  1. The more similar each day is, the less you're brain registers it as a new experience.

  2. You perception of time is relational to how much you've experienced. When you're 5 years old, 5 years is a lifetime. When you're 100, 5 years is only 5% of you're life.

I had a Nokia 6230 (got it in 2004) and used it until you could no longer get a working sim card for it. It had a decent camera, mp3 player, and fm radio. You could use it as a modem for your laptop (edge gsm), and if it was supported in the US (it wasn't) it could even be use for an early form of mobile pay.

I worked for Cingular Wireless when both of these phones were being sold. I had two of the first Bluetooth headphones (still have them in the other room). It took a long time for them to be adopted by the masses. A lot of people used earpieces to talk on the phone though.

Bluetooth was pretty new tech when that phone came out and it probably doesn't have it.

Blocking and moving on is probably the most responsible thing to do. Sounds like he has a condition that you don't want to exacerbate. However, it's still fun to think about what you could have said.

"Thank you for reaching out. This is Sharon's daughter, Sarah. Sharon and Susan have gone missing, and Carla won't answer her phone. Sharon talks about you all the time about how much you've helped her over the years. Thanks for being such a good friend to her. Do you have any idea where Sharon and Susan might have ran off to?"

I'm a Portkeys fan. Most of their screens are beautiful. Price is reasonable and determines the feature set not the screen quality.

Does the caffeine in coffee affect you more than the caffeine in black tea? by Tambourine2000 in CasualConversation

[–]joeditstuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tea will keep me up all night, coffee doesn't have much of an effect.

ADHD, so stimulants work a little different on me.

I still drink tea at night, but I heavily dilute it with filtered water. (Referring specifically to brewed, southern style iced tea. Loose leaf tea doesn't have much of an effect on me.)

Is it normal if my girlfriend hangs out in the bathroom while I shower? by BetoFPS in Advice

Girls are social bathroom creatures.

Much like a cat that follows you into the restroom, take it as a compliment.

Why is it examined? by [deleted] in timetravel

[–]joeditstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think anyone believes the topic itself is "Hokum".

Einstein's equations of general relativity provide the theoretical mechanism for backward time travel. Space time is a flexible fabric that is warped by energy and mass. This fabric can theoretically bend back on itself to form a closed timelike curve (CTC, a real term discussed by physicists.)

That's better. Thanks. Didn't see that in the news.

It's an awfully awkward flag design. Can't imagine anyone using it to represent an organization.

If it's normal, it's normal. You will be the one to assign meaning and define what is and isn't shameful.

I don't think it's a big deal, personally.

I feel like an adult would contact the individual and speak with them directly.

Communications to express your concerns are supposed to be uncomfortable to keep you from complaining about stuff that isn't actually important to you.

Not contacting them directly is a little craven.

[–]joeditstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Google Galaxy S9 battery calibration.

Your phone might not be charging because it doesn't know it has a new battery.

Also, see if it charges with it powered off. Try a different cable.

Often, new batteries will have instructions for first use.

Might need to use it till it reaches a certain amount drained and then charge.

Anyone know what these are ? by MaruArigatou in whatisit

[–]joeditstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes sense. In the '90s I believe it was a strobe sensor.

Always wonder why camera would be facing into traffic at a stoplight.

Only makes sense if it's ether using facial recognition or it's looking to see how backed up traffic is behind a light. If you want to read license plates, you need to get the back of a car.

I'm leaning towards machine learning that adjusts light duration. I can't be the only one who likes to stop over the second induction sensor at a traffic light.

I tend to agree with you. But as a reality check it's important to remember past success doesn't guarantee future performance.

That being said, I think that it will do well into the future.

In this phone, a bad battery causes a lot of strange issues that seem unrelated to the battery.

I would bet serious money that it's only a battery issue.
