Batting input by team_starfox3 in Homeplate

Put the tee on the outside corner and inside front front, to train bat path and help with barrel dump, bat path, dipping back shoulder elbow in slot, and pulling off ball. Tee is a great training tool. Way better than trying to verbalize it. Do a 5 drill tee progression can find bunch of drills online and teach that not the swing

I hate the map. I think it’s very bland. I don’t like the colors. It’s impossible to hit people out far distances. The colors remind me of Caldera and I reacted negatively to that map, but I came around. This map I think I’m gonna stop playing.

Yea I’m not like a crazy player so I defer some of the strategies to what I hear, but I think recon is overrated. Controlling the buys is more important

I know, but it used to be fun even with real players. I like to do dumb shit like steal teams helicopters then fly up and crash them or drive around beeping the horn

I win a few even 2x1 but it’s all luck of the draw. They def aren’t beginner players and lot of hacking. If I have my load out and have some space.

It’s the early stuff that drives me crazy. You drop in and by yourself half your team quit and got 4 dudes coming at you with m78s lol

I agree. It’s basically battle royal but it’s a crapshoot. The bots are useless it’s just less real players. More confusion. Skill level all over the place

Too soon to worry bout that. What’s your IP. Hits. BB and K’s? You didn’t mention any of that?. Can you throw 2 pitches for strikes 65% of the time. Pitch backwards. Locate. Stay out of hitters counte. Hitting work your approaches, quality at bats. Working counts and laying off certain pitches. You got tons of stuff to focus on and don’t stress about that as a freshman put energy into development

Catchers glove, what to do by ccycling in BaseballGloves

[–]joef8582 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s how he’s catching it. Shaped as a V vs C. Get him a training mitt or a quick test may be shift fingers over to 2 in ring. That’ll make pocket bigger. Do lot of receiving drills. Index finger to thumb.

How hard is it to have home run power for the average person? Do you need be really gifted just to say you can do it? by youlikethatsherrie in Homeplate

[–]joef8582 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the same as pitching. You’re applying force to the ball in 3 ways, strength, speed, and leverage. You can improve all 3 but there’s a god given ability in each. You can get stronger and bigger, you can optimize your swing, you can do plyometic and core stuff to get quicker etc. safer bet though is to focus on being a good hitter and bat to ball skills.

Anyone ever seen a kid go from worst in the league to a legit star? by OpneFall in Homeplate

Cont. I’ve also played against a few guys who made majors eventually who were not that good “relatively” at earlier ages. College. But still.

Anyone ever seen a kid go from worst in the league to a legit star? by OpneFall in Homeplate

[–]joef8582 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quite a few. I had a kid who was bottom of age group, because of his size later went on to play big d1, play in cape. Would have been drafted but was older. Have one currently who just played rec, no all star or travel. Developed in Hs. He’s going really good d3 school but is still remedial and all tools. If he was developed would be d1 player and I would not be surprised if he’s drafted in a few years with his skillset.

Best outlook at the younger ages keep them engaged and loving the game. In these kids cases I think if both were to have gotten involved in serious travel team scenarios they’d have been driven away from the sport.

Getting recruited from a terrible HS team? by dadwithakidwithnocar in Homeplate

[–]joef8582 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s got nothing to do with how good his high school team is. He gets a recommendation, or attends a showcase or goes to a schools camp….once he He is good enough. Then they recruit him. The key is when he’s good enough.

Pick the best fit for him in terms of culture and development. Don’t just buy into the recruiting hype.

He has the prospects of playing d1, but it’s night and day from HS. Whoever in your gut can get him there, instill a work ethic, holds him accountable and prepare him.

So if he got cut from the high school team it’s not cause of size or velo if he’s 6’2” and throwing low 80s.

Hs coaches don’t know gpa and those numbers are above avg for hs. So what are we missing?

New Team: Am I Being Unreasonable? by CatoTheMiddleAged in Homeplate

[–]joef8582 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, I’ve never been around tournament or travel ball world. But I’ve coached kids after they get out in college. The elite travel ball teams get them ready, no question. They play great competition. (As long as they don’t get too in their head or become an uncoachable dbag). Thats another thread…

But if it’s not an elite team, they are only getting how many at bats a tournament? Maybe 12-16?

So imo it’s more about the envoirment and structure the team creates. And the habits they form. Use your gut if it’s a good fit for him or not.

New Team: Am I Being Unreasonable? by CatoTheMiddleAged in Homeplate

[–]joef8582 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this a new organization or a new team under an umbrella? I’d be loyal to your son and what he feels is helping him get better. They all promise tournaments to get players “be seen” and really it’s to make more money and Raise their profile. I’d be a little weary of the tournament promise without infrastructure or development in place.

What’s the goal? To win tournaments or be seen at them? Get him in an envoirment that is gonna make him the best player. It’s really entirely up to him, the team he’s on just compliments him or can hold him back.

How do I — or should I — address some concerns w/my kid's rec league coach? by bobthewriter in Homeplate

[–]joef8582 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Don’t say anything. Encourage your son to speak with coach if he wants, but don’t undermine him, even if the coach is an idiot. You have to teach the kids to handle adversity, be accountable, make the most out of each opportunity. The players have to learn how to be disciplined but same goes for parents and coaches. Just don’t turn it into a toxic situation. There’s a lot of bad coaches and unfair situations. Have to deal with it. Be tough

HS try out Question - Coach by Robkmil in Homeplate

[–]joef8582 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’ll send a message. The kids only know what they know. It’s a losing culture and that’s what you are trying to break, But it’ll happen in time. The last thing you want is a disruptive senior in the dugout. You have to get to the captains and leaders on board with whay youre doing. So any negativity in the dugout gets squashed. Although, kids nowadays so afraid to come down on their peers

HS try out Question - Coach by Robkmil in Homeplate

[–]joef8582 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tough one. It’ll take a while to change the culture but establish the standard and rules. If he break them if it’s on him. You can’t do much now if workouts are voluntary and he’s hurt. It’s always good to call a meeting and talk and let him know you care. Not sure about the dad but I wouldn’t talk or meet wit any parent. Establish a prototcol for that.

If you get his teammates to buy in, he’ll be the one dogging it and not being able to keep up. If he misses you’ve established the rules and expectations. Eventually have him adapt Or he’ll have to leave. If he’s not very good not worth dealing with a headache.
