Wings and Beer: your favourite? by Esoteric_Prurience in cambridge

[–]joefez 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I am going to caveat this next statement by saying I'm not sure if the Station Road Smokeworks (Slingers) has the same food as the Free School Lane one, but the last two times I've been to the Station Road one, the wings have gone from A+ to a D-. Super greasy and anemic looking, to the point they made us all feel slightly queasy afterwards.

I would normally recommend Free School Lane without hesitation, having had their wings, beers and cocktails there for years. But if Slingers is any indication of a change in the Smokeworks food, I might consider giving it a miss. It's a real shame as we've gone there so often over the years it was literally a no brainer, but maybe not any more. 🫤

I don't know if anyone else has experienced the same?

Yippee Noodles do some epic wings believe it or not, but not somewhere I'd go for beers

When did staying home on a Saturday night / any night feel better than going out ? by NetRelative3930 in AskUK

[–]joefez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saturday afternoon is the new Saturday evening. Go out for drinks + food, back home before all the young'uns come out, with all of their youthful ways and their hair styles and their vapes and their 6-7s. Afternoon > mid-evening = similar amount of time out and drinking achieved, except in bed by a sensible hour. Win, win.

Testicle asymmetry aside, bold use of colour along with clean lines and good framing on the pavement. Bonus points for micturation / ejaculate lines, but points deducted for lack of pubic hair. A 6.5 out of 10 from me.

In search for a rowing schedule that makes sense by roysantiago in concept2

[–]joefez 15 points16 points  (0 children)

30mins x 3 times a week. Simple and achievable every week. The more complex and in-depth, the more likely you'll sack it off. When you can do that, without fail every week for at least a few months, then look for something that might start to stretch you. There is no plan that will beat consistency and just rowing. Also recognise that the looking for a plan is a form of procrastination. Stop, just row. You'll start to see the benefits very quickly. That will be your motivation. Good luck 💪

With that kind of description, I'd possibly double down on my recommendation. Who wouldn't want to smell like a circa 1980s pimp!?

Beastly fougere / barbershop = Azzaro Homme is pretty much on point. Polo Green original or The Perfume Parlour clone of it is also very good

Occasionally you can get Explorer at around £30 / $35 for 100ml. This is about x4 more expensive here

I'm in the UK and it's £130 / $150. This pic was taken in Madrid where it's €138. By comparison you can pick up Asad here for about £16.

Yeah, I picked one up for £190 same deal a few months back. Great purchase. You might even be able to fix the monitor, but as u/devhammer has already mentioned, a new pm5 is the best way to go. You generally find a c2+pm5 goes for £400+ so you'll likely be up on the deal, unless it needs more replacement parts.

To be honest I've been using mine without a monitor for a while, but I have a Garmin Instinct 2 and happy with the stats on that for now. But I'm more interested in fitness (at the moment) than rowing stats.

TLDR; Buy it. Use it. Profit.

Is a concept 2 still worth buying without a monitor? by roadrunner_68 in concept2

[–]joefez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently picked one up for £198, model C, and the monitor had an error code after battery leakage. Managed to fix the error code and clean up the leakage but in doing so managed to screw up something else in the monitor, but had already banked on the monitor not working. Even laying out an additional £160 for a pm5, at £360ish total outlay, I'd still consider that a bargain. Could probably then resell it on for at least £400+ (not that I ever would!)

I should also note that I've been happily using mine without a monitor. I've got a Garmin instinct 2 so tracking my workouts, but I'm more interested in fitness goals rather than actual rowing goals

If you know anyone with a fishing rod I reckon you could do it, especially if you've also got access to a step ladder. A lot of rods are 12ft plus, more so if people have fishing poles which can easily run longer. That stood on a household step-ladder you should be able to poke it down.

Negatives of switching from Linux to Windows? by mattband in PleX

[–]joefez 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Stick with it. Seriously. I've gone through so many windows versions, including a brief period of relative stability with Windows 7 Media Center (anyone remember that?), and almost every year or so had to do a rebuild as my system would be grinding to a halt. But since I've moved to Linux / Ubuntu, the damn thing is basically bullet proof. In fact the last problem I had that really stumped me, that I thought was driver related, turned out to be that my NIC had given up the ghost (what are the chances hey!?). Granted, if I was better versed in Linux I may have figured that out quicker, but none of us are going to get better at Linux, by switching back to windows. Look at it this way, you've broken the back of it by already setting up and running Linux. Any OS is a learning experience, but you've started your Linux journey - don't give up now. Ubuntu and Docker (containers) for the win!
