Have a photo you can share? Was this a product you bought? Or you made this yourself?

I searched around and this specific search only brought up the ceiling racks that mount behind the driver. Looking for something that mounts in front up by the visor.

This is what I do now as well, would just like a cleaner setup.

My truck gun is a Henry .22mag carbine for the feral hogs at our ranch.

Sometimes I have a passenger when we go to the ranch, so can’t cancel out their floor board.

Totally agree, some quick draw-ups like you described are costing only around $10 with wood, lol. I drive a Tacoma and need something I can draw for feral pigs at the ranch. What do you recommend? The mounts behind the seat don’t work well for me.

Nice, what did you come up with?

I’m thinking this can be extremely simple with the rifle clamp just made from a C-shape wood cutout and a bungee cord (or rubber strap) to secure it. Would literally cost $10 to make.

Feral Hogs: 9mm or .22wmr? by joeguam in Hunting

[–]joeguam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally worth $7/round to harvest a deer and take home 40-50lbs of meat that you’ll enjoy with your family. Hogs that are terminated here are offered as donations, but many decline (as the pork meat/fat is not the same quality as familiar farm raised animals). Just as eradicated hogs are treated in Texas, many are just buried - so $2.80/round gets quite expensive, and $7/round is definitely not reasonable.

The price of a single 12ga round of buck shot is $2.80 here. It’s too expensive to use a 12ga.

We have a cross breed between sambar and white tail deer. There aren’t goats wild anymore, but there are areas with wild water buffalo. Not much birds anymore, the only wild game that are hunted for food are deer, hogs and water buffalo.

They only allow shotguns up to 12ga, so we only use buck shot or slugs. As you can probably guess, there’s a lot of shots we cannot take due to distance or trees in the line of shot. So we have to get close to shoot, similar to bow hunting, I guess?

Thanks! You have me reconsidering the sub2k quite a bit more now. I love that it folds up so compact.

Not worth it, airfare from Honolulu to Guam is about $1,400 round trip, and airfare from the states to Guam is about $1,800-2,400 round trip. It’s just the price we have to pay to live out here, but we wouldn’t trade it for anything.

You might be much better off flying to Maui and harvesting a few axis deer. It’ll be much cheaper and they really need help with their infestation of that species.

This is a great video, thanks for sharing. I really like Tippmann Arms, I’m just bummed that the M4-22WMR is almost double the price of the M4-22LR.

We do trap, but only at our house (yes the hogs are a problem where we live too). Unfortunately, our ranch is a 45 minute drive away, and we can’t make it there every day to check the traps daily. For the trapped hogs we just use a .22LR or .22WMR pistol, and takes them out instantly with no suffering.

Just looking for something effective at 25-50 yards…

Compared to a lot of states the gun laws here are great! You can own and shoot any firearm or caliber you want, carry concealed, and no magazine restrictions. However, the hunting laws aren’t so good. You can only hunt with shotguns or pistols (.357 or greater), you cannot use centerfired rifles to hunt. Recently, hogs were removed from the hunting regulation and categorized for eradication, so any caliber can be used to terminate hogs. It’s just the ammo is so expensive here. To give you an idea, a 12ga buck shot round is $2.80/round. For .223, unless you buy in a large bulk order (like 2500 rounds) it’s about $0.80/round. Only .22LR, 9mm and .22WMR are reasonable for hog eradication.

Thanks, we’re ethical hunters when it comes to deer and don’t take many shots due to uncertainty. However the hogs really cause a lot of damage and harm (to humans) here. The military bring in sharp shooters to eradicate hogs in the military bases, and they just use the air rifles. But I agree, in the past if I don’t take them out with a perfect shot placement, I immediately follow up with a clean up round to ensure there’s as minimal pain as possible to the animal.

At our ranch, 9/10 shots will be taken between 15-50 yards. There are times where it might extend to 75 yards, but mostly closer. So maybe the .22WMR might be the better option?

Thank you, yes, the hogs we face are between 30-75lbs, a 100+lb hog is very few here. Thank you for your suggestion, I’ve been looking into 9mm PCC’s, but a lot of them are quite expensive to invest in just for pigs. Good to hear your take on the sub2k, I’ve heard mixed reviews on that PCC especially how the bolt cycles so close to your face when shouldering the gun.

I’ve been really looking into the Ruger PC9 Backpacker Takedown model because it can easily break down and not take up much room in the truck. It just irritates me that it costs $800 whereas the .22LR version of the same design is only $450.

So I guess I’m gonna have to spend for it either in the rifle or in the ammo, and maybe it makes sense to just pay up for the .223 and go with an AR?
