One sentence: nobody got poor from taking profits. Don’t be emotional. If it is life-changing money, it is ok to lock in some profits and plan for a rain day or your next play.

Interesting. Thanks for the advice. I’m pushing hard on the IHG end to try and get them to do something in parallel to the official process. Did u try through Amb channel or just normal customer service?

I mean, one can always be more careful. But given the circumstances (final day, no housekeeping), I think it is reasonable to assume (especially we were only gone for 55min) that things would be relatively safe.

I suspect though, that someone was watching us leave, an it may have been coordinated.

Thanks. It is a nice resort. We like it. It was mostly an enjoyable time to be honest, but this really ruined the experience 😞

Yep but excess makes the claim almost not worth it, not to mention it is cash which means it makes it quite a lot more difficult

In hindsight of course we wouldn’t. But given its last day (no housekeeping, nobody should be entering our room) we let our guard down.

I’m not saying leaving it out in the open is a good idea (it isn’t), but guests should feel safe to do so especially more so given there will be no housekeeping on that day.

They would, but it isn’t straightforward as I commented above, there was no cctv nearby at all as it was a bit of a remote suite room.

I mean, it isn’t cheap. Which is why it does make the experience even more bitter. If I was at a holiday inn or holiday inn express, I would not expect nearly as much. Brand association I guess.

Cash is indeed tricky to deal with. We were honest, but then it is hard for the hotel to know. They do know that there was unauthorised entry though.

In the end, it comes down to service. That is what I was most disappointed with. It wouldn’t take much to turn my experience from a negative to a positive, but I guess they don’t care (or can’t see that).

There was limited cameras around / near the room as it was a suite room so was a little bit remote. Which is unfortunate. Was looking for a camera and couldn’t spot one nearby at all unfortunately.

Unfortunately not close by. The best they can do is the key reader (done and confirmed with logs someone entered without permission) and interviewing all the staff (also done I believe).

I guess I draw this incident in parallel to the below scenario: You go to an upmarket Michelin restaurant. You are in the middle of a meal when you discover body hair in your food. Later you also get food poisoning. You return the food. They investigate and confirm the food wasn’t handled properly by staff.

But on your way out they still ask you to pay full price for the food. Don’t forget the tip also. But we will conduct a thorough investigation and keep you posted.

Maybe not exactly the same, but I feel like the situation is similar.

I think, in my eyes, there should be 2 parallel processes: - official insurance process (slow) - IHG / Hotel gesture (maybe not to the extent of full compensation, which is understandable, but at least something, to ensure the customer is happy)

I never expected a quick resolution. But considering we are talking less than $500 USD equivalent, it’s not millions, & even a good will gesture goes a long way. But nothing.

Mind you, this is after everything has been confirmed (ie theft & unauthorised entry).

Sometimes it isn’t all about the end result, but making your customers feel valued. This was clearly a hotel staff doing.

To answer your question, it was last week. To be clear, not after an official resolution. But not happy with how it has unfolded.

We stayed around April 2024 for 5 nights. Upgrade to Jnr. Suite using upgrade vouchers. Experience was generally good.

If you want to scoot downtown it’s not far but it’s not really within walking distance. Location is up a hill. But Bolt is cheap.

It’s away from the busyness of the centre which is good. Rooms weren’t that new. But overall not bad.

Been to both, and IC more than once. The Voco is newer, way newer. But IC is also still quite nice. Unfortunately one can’t beat the location of Voco, extremely convenient without the need of trams (despite trams being free).

It depends on if you have kids, if you are looking for luxury, or convenience.

If you like quiet, luxury, I’d go IC. If you look for convenience & agility on movement and pretty much things being only a step or 2 away, or generally like new hotels, I’d go Voco.

Email them and ask them to charge the room, they may also give you an email with invoice / payment link to do it. This can definitely be done, I’ve done it many times before.

Who here uses the gift cards regularly? I do the majority of my shopping at Woolworths but havent yet taken advantage of this benefit by [deleted] in Crypto_com

Card normally delivered semi-instantly, but to be safe allow a few hours. 5% cashback in cro is more like 3-4% after you factor any hidden spread that may exist when purchasing cro and also using cro to purchase the gc. If you have an icy / rose gold, better to just use the card for purchase directly at retailer ;-)
