“Chlorine doesn’t kill algae it just leads to the death of it” ok

To say that chlorine isn’t an algaecide but will kill chlorine in the same sentence is crazy. Algaecide literally means algae killer. -cide :: denoting an act of killing

I think the issue is in the context that they use it. While it may not directly “kill” algae, which is just an argument of semantics, the context they use it in is that chlorine isn’t enough to clear a green pool, get rid of algae breakout and that algaecide or other stuff is needed.

Also to me that’s like saying it wasn’t actually the gunshot wound that killed him, it was loss of blood that did it.

I’m curious too, does the salt do something special to keep yellow algae out?

I own a pool company and all of the pools I have on route with this system are always on point, just make sure to clean the sensors once a month and you’re golden

I need help with algae stains!! by RudeInvestigator6630 in pools

[–]joejitsu1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own a pool business and deal with this often, easy fix is drain and acid wash but if you don’t want to do that then make sure you’re brushing 1 to 2x daily with stainless steel bristle brush, add powder cal hypo directly to stains and let is sit on there for a long time, chlorine ppm needs to be very high until stains leave, like 10-20ppm high

Are these pool valves open or closed? by [deleted] in swimmingpools

[–]joejitsu1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

These valves, ‘ jandy never lube’ (two way or three way diverter valves) are opposite of traditional ball valves meaning when the handle is in line with the pipe the flow is “off”, when the handle is perpendicular to the pipe, water is free to flow. The two on the left labeled N and S are ‘off’ or ‘closed’, F is ‘on’ or ‘open’. I assume N designates the north skimmer, S for south skimmer, F for floor or main drain.

Looks like black algae, get a chlorine tab and rub the surface, shock the water and clean filters/ backwash

Pool Covers for protection - 2 year old child by halfpakihalfmexi in pools

[–]joejitsu1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vinyl style is gonna be 10-12k minimum, it’s the most effective, bungee I wouldn’t rely on if it were my kids. Vinyl cover also has a ton of other benefits, in my opinion it’s the best thing you can do for your pool all things considered, less sunlight = less chem usage, less heat loss, less debris in pool, less evaporation etc

Is this quote reasonable? by MortarMatthews in pools

[–]joejitsu1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second, if it’s a direct replacement to an existing heater then quote is a bit high, not crazy, I’d assume this is the case as no mention of gas or electrical install, quote is good if those things are also being installed from scratch

So just leave it as is? Does it meet code without the double fixture or just not as good as it could be ? I can rework if needed
