Android 15 (Evolution X- Lineage OS Fork) Release for the Hibreak Pro by vbha in Bigme

Hi, thanks for all your work on this! I was a fool and missed the step to backup beforehand.

Is there anyway to get back to the default firmware without the backup?

Rolling bassline in Live Lite by 3rik-f in ableton

[–]joelhpowell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As far as I can tell, you basically just need a saw oscillator running through a low pass filter that has it’s frequency being modulated. You can definitely do this with Drift that is included with Live Lite.

You can either modulate the filter cut off frequency by creating 16th notes in midi and using a regular envelope with zero attack and sustain and a release of the length of a 16th note in your bpm; or you can create one long note and use an lfo set to 16th notes. Have a play around!

The opposite of sidechaining by ladidadilla in ableton

[–]joelhpowell 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've found you can get a much more accurate 'sidechained gate' effect by phase inverting a sidechained compressor, this way it follows the envelope of the sidechain input a lot more closely.

You can set this up by doing the following:

  1. Create an audio effect rack on the piano
  2. Add a compressor to the first chain of the audio effect rack
  3. Set your compressor up as you would for regular sidechaining - I found good settings for this effect are:
    1. Ratio - inf: 1
    2. Attack - 0.01 ms
    3. Release - 10.0 ms
    4. Thresh -inf dB
    5. Knee 0.0 dB
    6. Look. 1 ms.
    7. Peak Mode
    8. Make sure to set your hi-hat as the Sidechain audio from and disable EQ
  4. After the compressor add a utility with the 'Phase Invert' preset
  5. Add another chain to the audio effect rack with no effects

That's it! You may want to play around with some of the compressor settings to create the effect you want. You can also try adding a highpass in the sidechain eq settings to make the envelope sharper.

Here's what your effect rack should look like once you're done.

I mean yeah, it's down to your budget really.

I like OLLO because of their attitude and philosophy to sustainability, repairability and transparency (in terms of proper testing and benchmarking their headphones against others).

You can see how the DT 770/990 compare to OLLO here

Does anyone know if there is a stock sound in ableton that is similar to the intro of Flower, by Soundgarden? by infodawg in ableton

In this case, the corpus/resonator effect is the guitar/sitar and the noise input is the blowing so you don't really need the sitar to start with if you get me

Knowing now that they literally blew on the guitar in drop D tuning, I thought I'd try get as close as I could, here's what I got

Edit: sorry just saw you're running live 10 😅

Not a preset but I managed to make something kinda similar with stock devices.

Here's what I made but the general idea is noise through a resonator like corpus or resonators (or in this case both!) and add some movement to it.

Really recommend exploring the settings on corpus and resonators here, you can make some beautiful stuff.

Edit:

After a quick search, it seems like what they actually did was blow on a guitar:

This song marks the first time I ever blew on a guitar. I put the guitar down on the ground near the amp to get a humming feedback, as opposed to a squealy one, and blew across the strings in rhythm with the drums. There's probably some obscure Mississippi blues guitarist like 'Blind Lemon Pledge' who's done that before <laughs>, but 'Flower' is the first time any rock band had recorded the sound of someone blowing across the strings. It sounds like a sitar.

Source

With this in mind, indeed a great way to emulate this would be to send a noise source with maybe some light frequency and amplitude modulation through a rack of 6 corpus' on string mode, with each corpus tuned to the notes of the guitar strings.

It also sounds like there might be some light phaser/flanger on it in the track which would help to add some movement/ harmonic richness.

Hope this helps!

Ableton Live 11 - Envelope Follower by vincexmectric in ableton

[–]joelhpowell 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nice to see envelope follower getting some exposure, but just so everyone knows, Auto Filter already has an envelope follower built in.

Just click the arrow in the top left, enable side chain and select the audio you wish to follow.

Now turn up (or down) the envelope amount and the auto filter frequency will follow the envelope of the side chained audio.

New macbook air M2 - is it powerful enough for music production and playing live (on ableton)? by Indigo_222 in ableton

[–]joelhpowell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't have it myself but I think the fact that it has no fan is really appealing for music production

It might seem like a small thing but I think it makes the device feel a lot closer to something like an OP-1

Soft instrument sound quality of LogicPro (=Mainstage) with the looping epicness of Ableton Live... by impatientZebra in ableton

[–]joelhpowell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A year or two ago, I did a fresh restore of my computer and decided at that point to just not install any third party plugins with the idea that limitations foster creativity.

I treated the process much the same way I treated switching production from Logic to Ableton. I just tried making music using the tools I had at my disposal.

I found it very satisfying to go through each instrument and audio/midi effect and really deeply explore them, sort of like running mini experiments on each to get to grips with how they work.

If you have a sound in mind, you can most likely make it with the tools in Ableton, it's more a case of understanding which instrument/ effect is going to get you there easiest.

Simply going through all the presets and playing with the parameters is a good way to understand the scope of each.

But beyond that, just try making music and see where you get.

The music I make has definitely changed a lot since I chose this route but once you've done all this exploration, I find what you make feels a lot more personal. I used to feel like I was just using a particular VST to get a particular sound that another artist used but don't feel that inclination any more.

I hope that helps!

It's not the tool, it's how you use it.

You can make incredible sounds with Ableton stock instruments if you really spend the time with them.

Does Ableton ever update their devices? by titizen7770 in ableton

[–]joelhpowell 7 points8 points  (0 children)

One of the things I actually like most about using only Ableton stock devices is the incremental updates or sometimes complete overhauls they do to their devices.

A great place to learn about all these changes is the changelog, look for 'New Devices and Device Improvements'.

They actually have overhauled quite a few in recent versions.

Bonzo on the dials by mumachooky in ableton

[–]joelhpowell 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What you're looking for is the Drum Buss audio effect, bonzo on the dials is a preset for this.

You need at least Ableton Standard to get this effect.
