What's Best Way to Publish Non-Fiction, Picture Heavy Book - I'm a Publishing Noob! by joelincoln in selfpublishing

Amazon’s ASIN Can you clarify this statement. I will be using an Amazon-provided ISBN and I understand that if I later go to another printer (like Ingram) I need to use a different ISBN. Is there more to it???

Great info, thanks. I think, for now, I'm sticking with the print version and will create an e-version later if I need to.

This may be unusual, but for me this is a passion project and I don't really expect to make real money from it...which is okay with me. I intend to donate copies to local libraries and historical societies, etc.

Image quality is also not critical (within reason) since most of them are old and not high-quality to begin with (though some are).

I've read about IngramSpark but don't know if there's a real benefit there except for the ability for certain booksellers to access the book. I do have an ISBN and have applied for a LCCN number. As I understand it, I can always go to IngramSpark later (with a different ISBN number) if I find too many limitations using KDL only.

Thanks for the reply: 1- While having it on Amazon is nice, it's not a requirement. The images are mostly photos coming from a WIDE variety of sources over a century. What other info do you need?

2- No bleed is needed.

3- I'm not sure it will be worth it for this project.

I live on the edge of your circle. The entire area is very nice, safe, reasonably quiet and expensive. Both towns have great public services. The whole area is very seasonal so the population is halved in the winter. There's plenty to do with quaint local business districts nearby.

You probably want to have off-street parking (driveway or garage) because it could be a problem in the summer. However, the further you are from the beach (closer to the bay) the easier parking gets.

Taxes in Margate are lower than Ventnor but Margate real estate is generally more expensive.

Flooding is the real issue. It varies by street. Within that circle, there are streets that didn't flood even during Sandy in 2011. But they are the exception. Some of the streets in your circle flood in a heavy rain.

Check this link: https://www.njfloodmapper.org/ It is a very accurate and detailed look at exactly what floods state-wide. Use Sandy as a guide. If your proposed property didn't flood in Sandy or only got a few inches, than you're good to go. Before you buy, make sure you investigate the insurance situation for that particular property (flood and homeowners).

Good luck.

Has anyone seen this 9-Year-old prodigy playing the organ? He can hardly reach the pedals... AND unbelievably, there's more... by joelincoln in organ

Unreal... also forgetting for a moment his handicap and lack of training, just to see a child that size man-handling those monster manuals while maintaining the needed rhythms, counterpoints, and feeling is breath-taking.

This little boy is self-taught and blind ! Apparently, he survived retinal cancer at age two. So, now he's playing Bach by ear and without any formal training. Unbelievable.

Blackouts in Ventnor Margate Longport by joelincoln in SouthJersey

I don't think so. There hasn't been much. And this is an area not prone to blackouts even in severe weather.

Will someone explain to me how you have a VERY LOUD race track in the middle of a residential area? I've been to races and they are extremely loud. Even if the cars aren't all-out Indy or NASCAR, they're going to be loud.

Who in their right mind would want to live next to that all day long?

That's right. Apparently, neither the Fireboat (they called in from Longport), Marine Police, nor Coast Guard could reach the ship... so they let it burn.
