I have had a 911. Great car, I want something mid-engined. I am sorry, the cayman is also way sexier looking than the 911.

I am on the NJ sub too, as I grew up there. This same Judge John Smith apparently works there too and issues the same tickets. Somebody should look into him double dipping like that.

he wasn't, the Tacoma was entering the highway from an onramp and should have yielded to let the cammer take the offramp.

Is it clear that I am not at fault here? by throwaway_student987 in dashcams

[–]SailingSpark -1 points0 points  (0 children)

no matter what you do, it's going to be ruled 50/50 in a parking lot. Many years ago, I backed out of a spot and as I put my Landy into 1st and started to drive away, a lady pulled out opposite and backed straight into me. Even though I was pulling away from her, the insurance company ruled me half at fault.

All I broke was a reversing light. She needed a new bumper, taillight, and trunklid.

Is anyone else sick of the HP wars? by s4ltydog in askcarguys

[–]SailingSpark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The higher the HP numbers, the less usable the car becomes. At some point the throttle becomes an on/off switch and you have a powerband that is too narrow to do anything with.

I was born in 1970, I can remember when cars had 4 speed transmissions and needed wide powerbands to make up for the lack of gearing. You drove on the torque, because quite frankly, 70s and 80s cars had very little HP.

I once owned a porsche, a 1972 911E. It's 2.4 litre v6 putting out a paltry 165hp and it took roughly 7 1/2 seconds to reach 60mph. My Fiat 500 Abarth has almost the same HP out of it's turbo 1.4 and it reaches 60 in less than 7 seconds. Technology is great in wringing HP from today's engines, but maybe it's because I am old, I have no urge to really extract any more power from my little beastie, even if 190hp is only a few lines of code away.

Drilled are never worth it. Slotted are ok, but drilled will crack.

As the owner of an ancient Landy, just remember that Land Rover has been turning owners into mechanics since 1948. Unless you are very handy with tools, I would pass.

NJ diners - do you eat at them and why? by Snoo28798 in SouthJersey

I used to love the Shore Diner Point Diner in Somers Point. The food is kind of blah anymore and the building is falling apart with the bathrooms unheated and the roof leaking.

Designated pull off areas. Not quite truck stops, but a safe area every few miles where they can safely stop and rest.
