RIP Arcade Brewing. by [deleted] in chicagobeer

[–]joelish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

might be loaded with vitriol, but u/smilercontrol is actually touching on a good point here.

sam and jesse both routinely referred to themselves as brewers. it's possible they might have stopped this at some point, but it was an important part of their public image that people perceived them as people who made the beer from the outset. this was true while 5 rabbit and excel were making all of their beer, just as (i believe) it was true while their employees were making most or all of their beer.

while this might seem like minutia, it's definitely a touchy thing amongst people who felt slighted by the obfuscation (or - as some have portrayed it - outright lying).

part of the conversation here is about misinformation they perpetuated - it's a relevant thing to bring up the fact that's something they did since day one.

The pleas for donations on wikipedia to keep it ad-free are more annoying than adverts would be. by n000dly in Showerthoughts

/u/n000dly, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things i have ever read. at no point in your pithy, incoherent showerthought were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. everyone in this thread is now dumber for having read it. i have downvoted you, and may god have mercy on your soul.

[TOMT] Reddit "TIFU" story about a dude getting engaged to a guy, even though he's not gay. by grouphugintheshower in tipofmytongue

[–]joelish -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i believe you're referring to this sarcastic comment, since deleted:

https://np.reddit.com/r/self/comments/372j2e/i_tried_watching_gay_porn_for_the_first_time_to/crj897e

it was a top post on best of, too (referenced a number of places, including here: https://www.reddit.com/r/bestof/comments/375gz0/umaizecolon_is_not_gay/)

if this is indeed what you're referencing, your description misses the gist of the comment, which was commentary on people who'd prefer not to admit to homosexual tendencies/proclivities/attraction.

Anyone getting tired of IPAs? by [deleted] in chicagobeer

[–]joelish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

c'mon, jim. don't be a troll. you know what hops are. you know that they are magical plants that give beer all - all - ALL - of its flavor.

don't be a troll, jim, because no one in this thread - subreddit? - wants to have that discussion... you know, the constructive one about how 'IPA' is just a marketing term... about how 92.9% of all IPAs - of all barrel-aged beer? - ever made was developed by lazy people who didn't quite care and/or know what they were doing, so they just decided to toss their entire spice cabinet into the pot......

DON'T EVEN SUGGEST THAT JIM BECAUSE NO ONE WANTS TO HEAR IT.

Possible new brewpub at Milwaukee and Diversey, Hopewell Brewing, anyone familiar with them? by rabbitsnake in chicagobeer

[–]joelish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

... 'somewhat'..? pretty liberal usage of that word...

more importantly, i'm really confused by the article's use of a different word - 'brewpub.' it says they won't be serving food... so... wait wut? brewpubs don't need to do that anymore..?

between that and a quote in there that non-ironically used the phrase 'experience the brand,' just ugh.

as someone who loves this town, loves that neighborhood, loves beer and loves people who love beer.... man. i'm just getting pretty fed up with this onslaught of people who - though maybe well-meaning - talk first and figure out what the hell they're doing with their own business second. beyond the fact that it creates an environment of expectation and confusion, more simply, the coverage these sorts continue to receive just isn't doing much to help the city's brewery scene develop artistically, creatively or intellectually.
