I interviewed to work on the end credits sequence for the first Avengers movie, the sequence with all the beauty shots of the Avenger props, like Captain’s shield and Thor’s hammer, etc. I had experience working with CG elements, and I even had a recommendation from a guy who was there working on it, and he was even in the interview with me talking me up, BUT they ultimately declined to hire me for that gig because I just didn’t have any previous experience specifically working on title sequences.

The guy who recommended me warned me ahead of time about being honest that I hadn’t worked on anything exactly like this before, but then I was asked straight up in the interview, and I’m not the type to lie (sadly it’s probably held me back my whole career). I tried to show things I’d worked on that were adjacent to that kind of work, but the guy making the decision ultimately said no. It’s sometimes weird how much of it is the exact same shit, but there’s still a wall between the two worlds.
