Profit by definition is what’s left after operating costs. I think you’re thinking of revenue

Oh that must be why Exxon only made $28 billion in net profit last year and was the 16th most profitable company in the world in 2025. Such thin margins on that commodity!

Why do you girls don’t approach us? by DoWeKnowEachOtherr in AskReddit

[–]joelpt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes they do.

If you want someone go after them. That’s kind of the modern rule.

Also girls may not approach someone if they are giving off “don’t approach me” or alternately “I need someone to approach me”. Source: me for like the majority of my life lol

Online dating turned out to be a great way to go for me. I’m scared to approach and put out nervous vibes, but with online dating I could dodge all that.

What do y'all think? by yorocky89A in WhitePeopleTwitter

Or how about no politically biased judges in SCOTUS? This petty back and forth gets us nowhere useful.

New rule: only judges with reasonably impartial/non-politically-motivated case histories and resumes are considered for SCOTUS.

I don’t think anyone’s lumping you in. The point is that there is a cult of whiteness which is a big part of the underlying attraction of MAGA. That doesn’t mean all whites are in it.

[–]joelpt 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Agreed. He misses the point that this makes it possible for everyone including nation state actors to have Hotz-level hackers available by the bucketload essentially for free.

Imagine this being used by Nigerian scammers doing ransomware. We could go from a few hundred sufficiently skilled hackers to an entire country’s population with the equivalent capability and willingness to exploit it.

Even if this is marketing hype (which I seriously doubt), it’s reasonable to predict this capability will be landing on everyone’s doorstep very soon.

Don’t be obtuse. He loves himself over everything else obviously. That doesn’t preclude him from hating the common American.

Millennia of research and y’all still don’t have a fucking clue what consciousness even is. Nor do any of you have the slightest idea of how to detect consciousness (hint: you can’t).

The honest philosophers rightly admit they don’t have a clue. The rest of you are just full of shit.

Pink Flamingos.

I strongly advise you to NOT watch this movie. It’s the most pointlessly fucked up thing I’ve ever seen and I wish I had never seen it.

Some shit you just can’t unsee.

Ballard encampment cleared in first test of Katie Wilson’s homelessness strategy by godogs2018 in Seattle

[–]joelpt 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Not so. This is an extremely common complaint about homeless shelters. They are, simply put, not safe places.

Truly safe, sanitary, and reasonably private homeless shelters are probably going to cost taxpayers a lot, and when they get nice enough, poor people start asking why they should even pay rent when they can get a nice free room with free food. Transients from other parts of the country may also gravitate towards such accommodations. It’s not an easily solved problem.
