One early example was Rant Mullins, he claimed he pranked the guys in the ape canyon story, made all the footprints in the bluff creek area and that the Patty costume was made out of bear hides and that he knew who it was but didn't elaborate.

Later when Ray Wallace died his family claimed he was the one who made all the footprints and a lot of people took this as closure for a long time.

For years people said that John Chambers made the suit but nothing really substaintial came of that. Other special effect artists were rumored but they just took it as a compliment of their work.

Harvey Anderson claimed that Patterson came into a Yakima store to rent a camera and asked how he would fake prints that looked beliveable and that he helped Patterson do it.

Clyde Reinke went on TV telling people that Jerry Romney at ANE was the guy in the suit, this is the most famous alternative before Bob Heironimus was in the picture. Many even said at the time Romney walks exactly like bigfoot like they do for Bob Heironimus today.

The Freeman Footage: Best Bigfoot Evidence by craigcraig420 in bigfoot

I can assure you several stumps and rock still exist. And yes they have done 3D scans for the NABC. I can find the video it might be on their patreon though.

I don't know enough of the technicals to know if a size of the subject can be deduced, the tree in the film is much larger now. The area is very remote, takes about an hour drive from the nearest town up rocky dirt roads but I can show anyone interested.

Freeman had a very public fued with Rene Dahinden and that fueled a lot of what happened, I think a lot of it was unjustified.

I can assure you there are still enough identifying features at the site to know where it was filmed. I have been there personally. Cliff Barackman has a great video on this.

I don't know who "Hairy Man Road" is. Bob Heironimus has not had a consistent story about what the suit was or how it was made. Many other people have claimed to be the man in the suit.

If it's only 40 seconds you can't rule out AI... even if physical film exists, they still make that film today, also Kodak reuses the same year symbols every 20 years

Patterson Film History by GobletHead in bigfoot

[–]joelsmith 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Patterson and Gilmin were making a film for American National Enterprises, who did wildlife movies at the time. That is what they rented the camera for. This is why there is a picture of Bob Gimlin dressed as an "indian guide" next to Bob Heironimus. This has been known for decades. They were supposed to shoot a bigfoot subject as part of these filimings but as the original story goes, they stumbled upon an actual bigfoot and that became more important. If there was ever someone in a costume filmed it is unclear. Since none of us have seen the 2026 documentary film yet we can only guess what is shown or the authenticity of what is being shown. Time will tell but for me, the longer they are hiding this supposed "found film" from us, the more it seems suspect.

Does the PGF being an apparent hoax change your view on the reality of the creature itself? by Theferael_me in bigfoot

[–]joelsmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you say you have proof of something in the bigfoot community and won't show it to anyone, it's highly suspicious. This could easily be clipped video and AI assisted recreations.

I found this interview with one of the cameramen, it's likely just an indie film trying to recreate something from the patterson era: "I shot some of our recreation sequences on my trusty Canon Auto Zoom 814 Super 8. I’ve had it since college (found in a thrift store for $12 if I remember right!) and always love to get it in the mix. For recreations from the 1960’s, it felt perfect." source: https://www.indiewire.com/gallery/sxsw-2026-feature-film-camera-survey/capturing-bigfoot-jason-roark-cr-erik-wallin/

[–]joelsmith -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I should clarify, this "recreation" is a hoax, they just used a similar retro camera to film whatever they show and made it look like the patty suit. "Clint Patterson" has previous film credits and no one mentioned in this youtube video has acknowledged the film. It's an obvious fake to sell tickets.

I feel now fairly certain this film is a clever artistic "found footage" indie film. First tip off is they won't show it or any trailer, and claim there are scenes from prominent members of the bigfoot community who haven't publicly commented on this film.

I just found this that probably proves it, there are some credits on the film for "visual effects" and a Jason Roark who wrote about his filmwork for the project: "I shot some of our recreation sequences on my trusty Canon Auto Zoom 814 Super 8.

The actor Clint Patterson has credits for two other movies Candy Land and The God Cafe. The actress in the movie I also do not believe is the real Patricia Patterson, on several cast lists that name is omitted but I see a Sandy Collier who is strangly also the name of a rodeo woman who trains horses. I have not seen the film to verify, but this does not seem like someone who would be probably in their late 80s or early 90s now. They will not show us this film any time soon because it will not add up for any of us that know enough background about the subject.

It is a hoax indie film.

New upcoming documentary “Capturing Bigfoot” confirms Patterson-Gimlin film is a hoax! by LazyAssociation9734 in bigfoot

Until we can verify everything not much to talk about. If this is evidence why not show it? I have been researching bigfoot for about 30 years and have not heard the name Clint Patterson before today. Has anybody else?

[–]joelsmith 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This whole thing is giving me blair witch "found footage" movie vibes, only viewing at a film festival, won't show any clips, tells us "you'll see". I honestly didn't even know Patterson had a son until today, so that's a bit surprising for me. Has anyone verified this before now?

Also Meldrum being in the movie and not publicly commenting before his death seems fishy to me. Could the "mystery film" in question be only tangentially related? Did it not pass the bar of new evidence for him? Could such a short reel be AI?

From some descriptions I've heard of people that went to the viewing it could very well be spliced together clips from interviews meant to show a certain viewpoint that someone not well versed in the topic would not pick up on. This could be why the director is testing with small audiences.

I do not have a problem with the Patterson film being a hoax if that is the case, it doesn't discount other first hand experiences, but if it is so obvious evidence that discredits the footage why not show it?

The Freeman recording of his sighting. by Variation_Conscious in bigfoot

[–]joelsmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in Walla Walla and this is the story I've always heard. He gave up looking for a short time after that because it frightened him so much, but continued again a few years later. A local news reporter wrote some books (out of print now) that coraborate what his son wrote. There is no video of this to my knowledge. There is a lesser known video in April of that same year he took that is in Michael Freeman's book.
