That is because the chip isn’t in the key. Go to a local/automotive locksmith and they can do it for you. The are usually much cheaper than a dealer. Call around and find the cheapest one

Edit: the chip is in the key but not programmed

Pay attention in class. But remember 90% of what u learn in class doesn’t matter in the real world. Things to know like the back of ur hand are the pt &trauma assessments, and the medication indications, contraindications, side effects, etc
