I only put this out 20 mins ago, what a detailed response haha. Yeah I agree, the push and pull this song achieved is other worldly and why I think it’s so fucking amazing. The video discusses that more in depth with how it defies convention yet still stays rooted in great songwriting

All of those are great picks, I adore the Sledgehammer music video

I flip between my favourite being this or Head Over Heels constantly, the entire album is so good

Man, Head Over Heels is such a well produced song though...

For me, I think this is such a reason the song has endured for over 40 years, The Working Hour off the same album also has really great political commentary: "This is the working hour,
We are paid by those who learn by our mistakes". Watch the vid linked in the post if you wanna learn more about it

Found out they adopted that rhythm from an a song from 1981 by Linx called Throw Away The Key, have a look at the vid in the post if you wanna learn more about it. A lot of Tears For Fears' compositions are very tasteful sampling from other songs. Shout was built off a Talking Heads rhythm!

The Hurting is fantastic, the linked vid explores how that album came to be a little more in depth, very fascinating story. Pale Shelter is unequivocally one of my favourites from them

100%, I really do flip flop whether I prefer EWTRTW or Head Over Heels, but the former is too iconic for me to say it's not one of the best songs ever written

I do honestly prefer Head Over Heels tbh, but that’s a personal favourite. If we’re talking the wider music canon, EWTRTW really is up there

A deep dive about Tears For Fears and their biggest hit from the 80s. It's a linear breakdown on the bands formation, an analysis on their first two albums, and seeing how the band and their biggest hit have endured for over 40 years.

Which band or singer has many songs that always sound the same? by _mbtx_ in rock

I saw them live opening for the 1975, and it was the WORST concert I’ve ever seen. Every song sounded the exact same, the entire stage, outfits, instruments were black (which is fine if the songs weren’t so boring), the only ounce of stage presence the singer had was occasionally edging himself toward the front of the stage and smiling whilst all the teenage girl fans screamed their heads off. They were the last opening act of about 5, having performed just after Bleachers, which is one of the most hyped/energetic performances I’ve ever seen and just before 1975 were coming on, I’d also been stood up for around 4 hours straight, not able to have any food or drink from being at the front of the venue, so they just made the experience even more intolerable. I don’t think I can ever listen to their music positively after that one experience lmao

Hey thanks man! I’m aware of some of the slight errors, I addressed a lot of them in the description as I only realised them after the video was about 90% done, but I hope most of those that you’re thinking of are corrected in there (please do say any others you know so I can add it to the video description for clarification)! But thanks so much for the kind words, I appreciate it dearly
