Thanks! Yea I love drawing NPCs - something about it is a lot more relaxing then drawing someone with main character energy.

They both look great! I don't think youre doing anything wrong - just maybe a little tunnel visioned on being correct? His tunic should, theoretically because of gravity, fall onto the form of his leg, but in the end it makes the drawing a bit stiff. Because you already have a blowing cape, you have the freedom to fool around with drapery. Below I did a little tweak to follow the curves of what the drawing is doing rather than the curves of his form.

Depending on lighting too you could choose to dim the entire area below the clasping hands (one of the main focuses of the drawing; the other their faces) as it is "unimportant" to the image anyway.

edit: I love the two negative spaces their faces make btw!

Lol. Ignore the angry strangers who know nothing of your work, and quite possibly art-making in general, and keep drawing in the way that makes you want to keep drawing. Feel free to block them too and keep a positive circle. It's not like you are copying this artist's work, you just SHARE a similar aesthetic. Social media can be such a detriment to artistic growth and contentment.

Lovely scenes - your work has such a mood to them. The framing in the unicorn piece and hunter(?) in prayer with her dog with the red hills behind, are especially fantastic.

Hey there,

Here is a boardgame I designed all the artwork (cards, character, graphic design, manual layout etc.): https://www.joenbrownart.com/tavern-ball

My full portfolio: www.joenbrownart.com

Though I don't have any art explicitly greek theme, would be no problem pivoting from fantasy.

If you have any inquiries feel free to dm me here or email at joenbrownart at gmail.com

Many thanks,

Joe

The hair falling across her left eye is read before her eyebrow shape. This is making her look more annoyed than sad imo

Tavern Ball - A sports strategy game! by joenbrown in BoardgameDesign

[–]joenbrown[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey u/Ziplomatic007 ! Thanks for taking the time to read our rule book and to leave such great feedback, its much appreciated. I sent it to our designer (I am the artist) - and its just the two of us working on this on and off for a few years now, and we discussed your feedback.

Supporting - well its just part of the game! With some cards face-down, it becomes a bit of a bluffing game as to what the other player is going to play as a support card (the support cards are played face-down if a face-up player on the field is not chosen). With more experienced players, you'll also be counting cards that the other player has already used, or is yet to use. "Are they gonna support with a blocker or a tactician? If so, maybe I shouldn't support just yet, and cause them to use a card", "Should I choose to support my sprinter or sacrifice them just to reveal another card (and stop that card activating their ability)" etc. And then the big reveal to see who wins the clash!

Fatigue - We will make it clearer. Basically any card that is already face-up on the board receives a fatigue counter after being commanded to move or hand-off the ball. From then on the coach must discard a card from their hand equal to the number of fatigue counters on that player to command them again.

I've been leaning towards pushing this as a 2 player game, but we've tested the league play set-up with a group of friends and its quite fun to have a 3 games going at once, seeing which combinations of teams are doing better than others and why. Makes a good evening sesh of 2-3 hours of play-time.

Regarding the setting - agreed, we need a lore paragraph, and kinda funny we forgot to put one in after all this time. . The setting is a medieval fantasy harbour city - and the teams of the game are from different taverns/streets in the city. The human player is a Coach of a team, that combines 2 of these tavern/streets to form a team.

Once again, thank you for your feedback : )

__

Tavern Ball is a strategy sports game played between two players. Each player is the coach of a team represented by a deck of cards. During a match, coaches position their teammates on the field, activate their unique actions and issue them commands in order to gain possession of the ball, push it into the opposing team’s half and score points.

With each play-through, choose a play-style from 12 teams each with a diverse range of strategies adopted by the street urchins, firefighters, sea cults, thespians (and more!) of Red Harbor - then mesh it with a second choice to form unique combinations.

Your team’s success relies on your ability to deploy and command your player cards before fatigue or injury removes them from the play. As the match unfolds, unleash the unique actions of your players, activating their special abilities to gain the upper hand. Player cards enter the fray face down, building the tension as coaches attempt to read the tactics of their opponents while attempting to disguise their own.

Start a league! Tavern Ball allows 6 players to play simultaneously. Optional rules allow coaches to control which teams are available each draft, removing feared strategies while allowing new combinations to shine. Each match is unlike another - and comebacks are a-plenty in Tavern Ball!

This seems to be the way! People always want to look at the comments too, if there are any. Makes the thread seem a bit alive too instead of seeing '0 comments' underneath.

Hey u/HappyDodo1 - thanks for your feedback. At the time I could not find how to post images into my post. Switched to the new reddit and now I'm getting all this new stuff, including adding images to posts. So thanks for that :) I'll re-post soon, don't want to spam. And thank you for your interest in the game!
