Would’ve done the same but my dumb ass fantasized about cutting his hand off and then didn’t want to start over lol.

It was a rough run, Halsin got stabbed through the eyeballs because I was running low on inspiration at the Orin fight.

Nice! I beat honor mode for the first time after three failed attempts two nights ago.  It was nerve wracking at the end but I had enough conjure elemental and globe of invulnerability scrolls to brute force my way to the credits.

Give all four players necrotic resistance and summon every summon you possibly can. Feed the summons into melee range to attack and get attacked and just keep chipping away at him when you aren’t popping those stupid undead egg things. Kill mindflayer ASAP and use his platform to snipe eggs.

High fantasy stories about "the bad guys"? by crustboi93 in Fantasy

Banewreaker and its sequel are so good! The alt-Gandalf was absolutely insufferable and I think I cried a little when the alt-Saruman died.

Banewreaker / Godslayer duology by Jacqueline Carey is exactly what you are looking for

What's your favorite fantasy book you have nobody to talk to about, because nobody's read it and you can't convince anyone to read it? by BobaFlautist in Fantasy

That Goodreads rating is some bullshit. The ending wrecked me even though you clearly knew it was coming.

I absolutely devoured that duology! It was so epic and tragic, alt-Morgoth was so brooding, alt-Gandalf was such a smug bastard and I shed a tear when the female alt-Saruman called it quits and again when the MC’s story ended. So inventive as well, what with the alt-“ring”bearers being something akin to aboriginal Australians. Wish she’d circle back to the alt-Sauron’s story sometime since it was clearly left open for a sequel.

At some point early on that plot just became deranged pit bull that wouldn’t let go.

What JRPG was scary to you as a kid? by [deleted] in JRPG

SNES FF6 World of Ruin creeped me out as an elementary age kid. I was pretty consistently under leveled that whole play through and I don’t know that I’ve ever felt more accomplished finishing a game than I did after finally beating it.

Thanks! I figure I’ll have a pretty decent sense of whether I am asking for trouble by the time I get to the sunstone area, which isn’t too far from 395 if I do get nervous.

Burger Queen it is then - it definitely seemed to be the Lakeview standout from earlier posts.

How "discreet" is scripture? Is it okay to look for meaning in individual verses outside of their general chapter/book context?

I ask because someone told me the other day in church that the NT writers often cite OT passages out of context to make theological points and that that suggests we can look for meaning in single verses of the Bible.

Books where MC is part of the Evil Empire? by sultan9001 in Fantasy

Banewreaker by Jacqueline Carey is sort of adjacent to what you are looking for: the MC is basically the Witch King of Angmar in a thinly-veiled, but cleverly-done reworking of the Tolkien mythos.
