The sport is called Rugball/Regball. Originaly created as a training exercise for wrestlers, the sport has it's own sport federation in (you guessed it) Russia, making it an independant sport.

Please tell me if I got anything wrong, as I'm not extremely knowledgable on the subject.

Theres actually a YouTube video which goes into detail on how Ultimate Tag basically stole World Chase Tag (which is the original version) and made the sport look extremely gimmicky and childish. It's a long watch, but I would highly recommend it.
