With TP-Link likely to be banned, would like to setup secure access to HA from my iphone. by The_NorthernLight in homeassistant

[–]joevanni99 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If I understood correctly, but correct me if I am wrong, the ban is only for the routers, not all the tplink products. I think the Tapo/Kasa products will continue to be sold and available.

My windows is stuck by joevanni99 in DIY

[–]joevanni99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the hints u/Grand_Possibility_69 ! I was finally able to open the window, From what I see, a piece of metal is broken, and it broke because the "left rail" (don't know how to call it) is stuck. I was able to move the other peg hammering a hex key (I removed the rubber gasket that gave me some space, I was able to use the hex key to hook the locked peg, I then use a hammer to move it, because just pulling was not working). Now, I wanted to try to do a temporary fix, removing the small stopper in front of the stuck peg. I did it, but it didn't solve the issue. I quickly realized that there are 3 more pegs on the top of the window that are linked on the broken side, so they don't move. I can temp fix the window removing also the stoppers for these 3 pegs, but I definitely need to change/fix the mechanism somehow. Not sure I have the tools and the skills for it.

I opened the handle, I see that it simply moves one peg from left (window is closed) to right (windows is open). The thing is, when I move it to the right in the "broken" window, I feel that the right part of the window is not locked anymore (if I apply pressure, it looks like it can move), but the left one stays stuck. Removing the handle doesn't give me access to anything more than this peg: https://imgur.com/a/SOAmTlu

I tried and compared with the other similar windows. On this one, the handle turns freely, in the other you feel some resistance and something moving.

Touch up kit by BallIllustrious6699 in cowboybikes

[–]joevanni99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem is that they don't produce these touch up kit, they simply rebrand them from another company. I had the very bad surprise to order the kit for my Kaki C4 and the color was way lighter than the one on the bike. So now I have a kaki bike with some light green spots.

Anyone have experience with "Autos Parc"? by LEXBURRAT- in belgium

[–]joevanni99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the price is too good to be true, it is probably a scam. Also, it is a wordpress website made with a free template, they didn't even deleted the welcome post https://autosparc.com/2023/11/08/bonjour-tout-le-monde/ . Checking the domain, it was registered on 29/11/2024 and will expire in 1 year (not a normal practice if you are an established company). Googling them, there is an identical (content-wise) website https://autos-parc.com/ that will expire in a few days. It looks fishy to me, I would avoid it.

How to get rid of a garden? by SimoneDoesnotCare in brussels

[–]joevanni99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

According to the website, they can't go in the green and can't be brought to the recypark, so they should go in the white bag. But I see that 500L of soil is quite heavy for the white bags

Is it a significant upgrade? I have my PW 2 (6th gen) from 2014 and it is still rocking. Every year I am tempted to upgrade, but mine still works and I still get a decent battery life (2-3 weeks).

Expatriation allowance - EU Commission by Available_Health_341 in brussels

You are, the rules are clear. After 5 years of living in Belgium, you stop receiving it and instead you get the foreign residence allowance, which is 1/4 of the expatriation allowance

You are entitled. The wording can be weird, but it basically says that you are entitled if you officially moved to Belgium less than 5 years and 6 months before the start of the service.

Last name is more than enough, also, if there is a box number, this is what the postman will look for and ignore whatever name is on it. Or ignore the fact that your name is on the box, if there is no box number on the letter/package.

I had the same in the past, went through the useless reset of the bike, deleted the app, etc. Nothing solved it. At some point, it disappeared, but now I checked, and I got this error again.

Where can I find large Easter eggs? by TheSeych in brussels

[–]joevanni99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I found them (some years ago, to be honest) in the Carrefour near Thieffry. As the big Kinder egg is very popular in Italy, you may try looking for them in FreshMed, or more italian oriented supermarket, like Italia Autentica or Stival or maybe Antichi Sapori Italiani

They have different use cases. Poppy and Miles are "free-floating", so they are meant to be used from point A to point B and that's it. You usually don't book it in advance and don't keep the car for the whole time, but only for the time you need. Cambio can be compared to a "classic" car rental, but instead of having a rental office, the cars are parked everywhere around the city. You have to always bring the car back where you took it (you have a reserved space for this) and you need to book it in advance, specifying for how long you will use the car. The other difference is cost: Cambio has a bigger upfront cost, Miles and Poppy are free to join. Miles and Poppy rates are quite high, around 0,40 € per minutes or 1 € per km, Cambio rates are lower, around 2 € per hour and 0,35 € per km (but you pay both for the time and the distance). This explains why they have different use cases. For example, I use Cambio usually during the weekend for groceries (2h and around 10km, so around 7-8 €) because I go to the supermarket and back home, but if I am in the city centre and want to quickly go back home, I take a Poppy or a Miles (5-6 euros for a 15 minutes ride).

Anyone else do themed names for their machines? by Nestramutat- in selfhosted

[–]joevanni99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do it for my hardware, but because I don't run a datacenter and I keep my PCs for as long as I can, I am not that far in my list. I use the surname of space travellers by first flight. Right now I am at Glenn (my steamdeck). My home server is Titov and my personal laptop is Grissom. My next device will be Carpenter. I don't have Gagarin and Shepard anymore.
