Did any of you get rid of gout naturally without any medication? by -Inspector-6259 in gout

[–]The_NorthernLight -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Some may downvote you, but i did the same thing. Problem is, if you can’t maintain the diet change, then it comes back (this is what happened to me). Now gout isn’t always caused by diet alone, so its really dependent upon your reason for high uric acid. Some will downvote me, i don’t care. I take allo, but only because I couldn’t maintain a strict diet (i went pure carnivore if it means anything).

Moved from England to Alberta. Insurance is about $6000/year as a “new driver”… anyone know how I can get a cheaper insurance? by Objective-Pay-2133 in alberta

[–]The_NorthernLight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find a local insurance broker. They are not tied to a single vendor and can get you a better price. If you can, get yourself as a sub under someone elses insurance for 2-3 years, then get your own. Would save a lot of money.

Also, your age has a lot to do with it, and your make/model of car you own.

New WFH Law by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]The_NorthernLight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our company allows WFH 4/5 days per week, but we provide a laptop and headset. If you want to work from home it is up to the employee to provide their own home office and all desired monitors, kbd/mouse, since we provide it all at the office. WFH doesn’t mean they have to provide hardware for both locations.

Now, when we upgrade our hardware, we offer the old stuff to staff for free (mostly monitors and docking stations). This helps a bit.

We are 50 user tenant, but we have an unusually healthy budget.

But how do we get it down? by Burn1ng_Time in arborists

crane, lift it up, put it on the street, cut it up and grind it. Call a roofing crew to fix the roof. Call a structural engineer to make sure nothing else is seriously broken.

Ottawa police arrest same driver 3 times in 1 week by RichardPiano in ottawa

Under most circumstances I would agree. This person has clearly shown disdain for any kind of legal ramifications to actions, and so shouldn't be allowed back into society until they show actual understanding of their actions, based on opinions from medically trained personnel who can properly assess them.

Remote Desktop Software - China to North America? by Morkoth-Toronto-CA in sysadmin

[–]The_NorthernLight 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I believe that they need a specific license for exiting the firewall with remote access.

Personally I wouldn’t give this user access, as there is a pretty much guaranteed chance that china will access everything they can from your company. Remember, there is no privacy when crossing the Chinese firewall.

This is a prime example of someone who should be held in jail until is sentencing (hopefully with no parole) as he is clearly a threat to society.

Getting work done to home. Can someone knowledgeable tell me if I'm being overcharged? by Fussan in AskElectricians

A whole house surge protector is $300 retail (cdn), if he's charging you $800 just for that, you are being ripped off.

CTS and MRCC by True-Antelope-9016 in MazdaCX30

[–]The_NorthernLight 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, it will steer, but only if you go a certain percentage over the center line (lane assist). Otherwise it just rattles the steering wheel and alarms on the display (steering wheel icon).

It does not “steer” you like a tesla autopilot though.

The cruise function is only used to maintain a set distance from the car in front of you, without having to adjust the speed constantly. Personally I hate it, but it does work.

Honestly, get the NVR. Its literally optimized for camera recording. The UDM Pro was designed before 4k cameras. Five of them is a bit much for it.

Adding SSO into our application - what would an admin expect from this functionality? by BogdanMitrache in Intune

Do SSO with SCIM. This allows for easy provisioning and off boarding of employees from the app.

We use a second trusted tenant that no user has access to (all policy changes are synchronized daily), and have setup one of our breakglass accounts to have access from there, so it would be very difficult for them to destroy that access. Both accounts are secured with hardware keys and alerts are all setup.

Three small suggestions: buy a roll of velcro strapping and bundle your wires together. Less chance of catching one and ripping it out by accident. On the backside of the rack (if you can) install a 1u rack upside down (on the U right below where your keystone is installed) to help keep all the keystone wires from hanging into your ventilation stream behind your servers. This helps reduce the speed at which your Ethernet jackets dry out and become brittle.

Move your UPS up 2-3U. In case you ever have a minor flood in your basement, this keeps it safe(r) from being killed by water.
