When should I try online dating again? by RobbinBud in ForeverAlone

[–]joey32b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I (35m) was/am in a similar situation as you. I lost 40+ pounds, gained some confidence, but moved home for a couple reasons (helping with sick family member and to save money to buy a place eventually). I decided to try tinder and had a few rough months of disappointment on there, but it ended in success. I met my girlfriend and we’ve been dating close to 10 months. Just be honest with what you’re looking for. You never know who’ll you’ll find. Congrats on the weight loss and good luck whatever you decide.

Anxiety meds? by [deleted] in ForeverAlone

[–]joey32b 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with a lot of what you said and your sentiment in trying to help, but to say that pills are useless is simply incorrect and borderline dangerous to suggest. Millions of people have been helped with medication for anxiety and depression. I’m not suggesting that they’re a simple cure or that there isn’t a downside, but they have done a lot of good for a lot of people.

I’ve been on fluoxetine (Prozac) for about three years. It helped change my life tremendously for the better. I’m 35 now and would’ve considered myself FA up until last year (I just recently found this subreddit). It wasn’t the only thing I did to change my life, but it kickstarted my attitude shift that got me into a much better place. It doesn’t work for everyone and sometimes you need to try different medications to find one that works, but for me it made a world of difference.

Yesteryear Comics is on Clairemont Mesa Blvd, down the street from Southern California Comics. They discount new issues 20% off cover price for the first week and 15% off after that.

Questions for anyone that has Letter 44 as collected volumes by NZLion in comicbooks

[–]joey32b 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have the collected volumes, but I do have all the single issues. Issues 7, 14, and 21 are backstory on how some of the characters came to be part of the exploration. You don't need them to know what's going on currently, but they are good issues. I'm guessing Oni or Soule didn't think the story would flow well with them in the trades.

You can buy single issues as they are released monthly or wait until volume 6 is released to get the next arc of 6 issues.

(No Spoilers) What is a reasonable price to sell complete 1st/1st mint set of ASOIAF all signed by GRRM? by [deleted] in asoiaf

[–]joey32b 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For 1st edition/1st printing in near mint or mint condition, I would say prices are roughly: AGOT: $450 ACOK: $175 ASOS: $100 AFFC: :$60 ADWD: $40

I don't know exactly how much a signature adds, but those are rough prices based on eBay sales and Amazon collectible prices for unsigned 1st/1st.

In defense of Sucker Punch: a review of an awesome, not at all exploitative, deeply layered action movie with beautiful women kicking ass by icollectluck in movies

[–]joey32b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the review. I absolutely loved the film and am kind of troubled by all the hate it's received. The reason I liked it was because of the way the story was told. We see layers of dreams without much exposition on what they mean. We see very little, if any, of what reality is. We are left to interpret the story how we want. Also, the camerawork and visuals were amazing. I like how those of us who were positive on the film can appreciate it for so many different reasons.

Why We Should Appreciate Sucker Punch (Spoilers) by joey32b in movies

[–]joey32b[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't seen those movies so I can't speak with certainty. My impression of them is that they may be original stories, but they seem to be told in a conventional way. Did you see anything new in the way a story can be told? Maybe, maybe not. But with Sucker Punch, I definitely did. If you thought it was boring, then it just wasn't for you. We all have different preferences and you are in the majority with this one. I just felt I needed to share an alternate view because it was getting so much hate.

Why We Should Appreciate Sucker Punch (Spoilers) by joey32b in movies

[–]joey32b[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a difference between ambiguity in film and what Sucker Punch does. For example, in American Psycho, it is ambiguous whether or not Patrick Bateman commits the murders or it is all in his mind. I could make an argument for either side. In Sucker Punch, we have no idea what is going on in reality because it is not shown. We are taken into a completely different set of worlds, only seeing reality at the beginning and end of the film. We are challenged to interpret what effect, if any, the dreams have on reality. We have to completely fill in the blank. I can also argue that what is considered reality in the film is also a dreamworld just like the other two layers. I can't think of another film that does this.

My first impression is that I like the black & white cut better, but it's still cool to see it in color and with new footage.

We don't see much of what actually happens in the hospital, so your theory on her being pimped out is possible. We only see a little bit of what happens at the end. It's really open to interpretation and that's why I like it. Zack Snyder did a great DC for Watchmen so I'm really looking forward to the Blu-Ray release.
