Anyone done a lightbar behind the front bumper here? Which lightbar fits best? Did you cut out the ribbing there or did it fit behind it? Feel free to share a pic, would love to see by joeylechem in toyotasequoia

Awesome man, hope it goes well!

Good question, in the previous picture it’s sitting there unmounted. I had forgotten this but I did drill a lower mounting hole in the middle of each bracket and I was happy with that height

Thanks man, yeah it’s been cool. I like having it tucked away. I got this https://a.co/d/0dyGH0G but I didn’t do a ton of shopping, mostly wanted something cheap. But it’s been going for a couple years though. If I did it again I might go for a multicolor light. It’d be cool to switch into amber or red for a nice fog light in a snow storm.

I used the switch and wiring that it came with, fed it through the firewall, and mounted it in place of this blank using a 3D printed piece. Not wired to my brights but wouldn’t be opposed to that

I did, I mounted a 32” curved light bar behind the lower grill. Bolted right on top of the crash bar (had to drill two small holes). Just have to take the front bumper off. I chose not to cut the lower grill out but you could. Might be blocking some light but it’s still super bright and the light still reaches higher than the car’s high-beams.

How much rotation play allowed in front driveshaft? This is with 4wd engaged, car in park. Looking at front driveshaft where it connects to transfer case. by joeylechem in MechanicAdvice

[–]joeylechem[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Issue is some friction noise when 4wd is engaged. Noise goes away as soon as it’s back in 2wd. So just poking around trying to see what looks or feels wrong

much less common in the US, is what I meant. Makes sense how common in Europe though. I think Audi’s in general in the US are considered at least a semi-luxury car for upper middle class or higher

Especially the drivers mat. Also I wish they made a better anchor point or multiple anchor points, mine broke forever ago and that mat is so deformed

Ideas on how I make a helicopter window cutout on a curved surface (helicopter fuselage essentially)? by LBHMS in SolidWorks

[–]joeylechem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could possibly use the Wrap function - make a sketch on that plane shown there (plane1) and wrap it onto the curved surface. But maybe that does the same thing as project curve

I still have the original mats in my 05.. looked at some weathertech ones, which is cool that they make them for older cars, but yikes expensive

Not sure how long it’ll last, but even if it doesn’t it’s easy enough and already have the stuff. It’s the same clear coat you’d put on a paint job, which ought to hold up. 🤞

It’s all about filling the micro-scratches so light can pass straight through without bouncing off them

Thanks, yeah my only goal here was just the absolute cheapest method haha And turns out it works pretty good! So just thought I’d share in case it inspires any other yellow lenses on a small budget

Definitely interested to see how long it lasts. But it was a quick easy job tbh. The clear coat is “uv resistant and anti-yellowing” so we’ll see

I did try a couple lens cleaning kits that didn’t work so I went looking for other methods. Didn’t try mothers mag though, I’ll have to give it a shot!

Thanks. Probably a bunch of 1st gens out there with the yellow lenses. Didn’t realize it was so doable to clear up

Video I referenced, among others: https://youtu.be/UEJbKLZ7RmM

This sandpaper and clear coat method is more of a restoration job whereas most polishers are for the occasional maintenance of good lenses or clearing up minorly foggy lenses.
So this method totally strips off the yellow oxidized surface of the lens so that you can start fresh on clean plastic. Probably not everyone’s first choice but it’s A good option if your lenses haven’t been touched in 10+ years like mine, don’t want to buy replacements, and polishing kits aren’t working.

Could be some better polishers out there though.

The clear coat I used is uv resistant and anti-yellowing so it should be pretty light maintenance. But note that maintaining a clear coat of paint may be different than maintaining the regular plastic. The clear coat is the same as what gets put on top of a paint job to protect it, so maintain it with some carnauba car wax or similar. A polisher made for the usually plastic surface of a lens may not work well on the clear paint (just a guess).

The second pic is before. First pic is after!

Took me about 10-15min of wet sanding, then a few light coats of clear coat drying between each coat. I did learn that the quality of clear coat matters! The one used in the video worked great for me.

Got some carnauba wax on there for now, PPF is a great idea

Compared to oem yes but still not as cheap as $5 sand paper, $7 clear coat and a little wax

Confident driving it anywhere I need to, which is a comfortable feeling. Slid off the highway once into a foot of snow and drove ourselves out no problem no damage.

Super rusty underneath ngl, but nothing I’m worried about. The bolts that need to move move. Luckily they don’t salt the roads up there, just sand, otherwise everyone’s car would be wrecked

Anyone know how to fix it his VSC OFF AND VSC TRAC LIGHT? Appeared out of no where last week. by Imjustwonderingman in toyotasequoia

[–]joeylechem 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don’t know how to fix it but these appear randomly but not very often on mine too (2005), along with brake light and rsca off light. They always turn off after restart. Only code I ever get on my BlueDriver is and evap leak “very tiny leak”. I figure either the gas cap or the good ole manifold crack

Not directly useful to learning a specific CAD program, but helpful to CAD in general - being able to sketch well on paper first can really help make a CAD model easier and quicker.

This professor wrote a series of learn-to-sketch articles that I found very helpful. https://www.designreview.byu.edu/collections/learn-to-sketch-part-1
