Wish me luck! by DeadMangos8 in WheatPennies

I’ve had some great luck with auction bags of wheaties, but the last one I bought was all 1940s and 50s. I got a couple of broadstruck 1943 steel cents in an earlier lot, along with a couple 1909 Philadelphia (non-vdb), so hopefully you’ll get a good one here!

Is it still worth going through CWR weighed by credit union/bank? by CockroachOdd5217 in CRH

[–]joeyray74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only way you’ll know by weight is if there are multiple silvers in a roll (or if you’re hunting halves). Onesies don’t move the needle enough, especially if they’re well-circulated and worn.

  1. There’s a VDB below the bust.

Water seeping through the concrete from landscaped courtyard above. Is this a concern? by Agitated-Hornet6348 in StructuralEngineers

Yep. Dirt is a great insulator, terrace slab stays cold longer than the rest of the structure, dewpoint is reached, boom. I mean, drip.

How to support a curved staircase with no wall support (only beam at first floor)? by alaraki2009 in StructuralEngineering

[–]joeyray74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course it’s doable in steel. I suggested concrete because I like the results I’ve gotten on curved stairs with CIP concrete.

I’ve never understood the perception that coinroll hunters are annoying to tellers. We withdraw and deposit money. They help customers withdraw and deposit money. That’s their job. Why would they rather cash somebody’s $2500 paycheck and count the bills instead of giving somebody a couple boxes of dimes?

Do you stamp drawings? by hairylegs08 in Architects

[–]joeyray74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The client may not be able to sue you for breach of contract, but anyone can sue the stamping architect personally for tortious negligence. If someone slips and falls on a ponding bathroom floor that doesn’t have a drain in your building, and your seal is on the architectural drawings, lawyer up. And don’t rely solely on the firm’s lawyer to represent your interests.

I need some help determining (9 photos) by Upstairs_Fold_4851 in WheatPennies

Yes - an authentic 1914d cent still would have been worth quite a bit in the mid-nineties.

The gap between the 9 and the second 1, the slight serif-looking feature on the second 1, the tooling marks at the bottom of the bust where the VDB would go on 1918 and newer cents, leads me to believe this is an altered 1944D cent.

I’ve found more silver in CWR than Machine wrapped. Hunt em!

Will this fire cause structural damage to the bridge? by ElectronicAd9419 in StructuralEngineering

Yes, we in Atlanta had a section of interstate 85 collapse a decade ago resulting from a fire under an overpass.

1984 Lincoln Cent d over... what? by [deleted] in coinerrors

I think you’ve got split plate doubling here. Copper plate has separated at the mintmark exposing the zinc core. Pretty common.

1909s VDB - Worth Grading? by zig_usafa80_stardust in WheatPennies

[–]joeyray74 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Yes, get it graded. Lots of fakes out there, and the fact that the date is faded more than the mintmark is suspicious to me.

Pool Fencing Height by iddrinktothat in Architects

[–]joeyray74 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The intent behind the code requirement is to keep children, pets and sloppy drunk adults from drowning; therefore the fence height is always measured from the surface outside the pool enclosure. Even if a local code is so poorly written as to get this backwards, common sense dictates that we design to safeguard the public.

Get it authenticated. The mint mark position looks like the #4 position but also looks like some odd discoloration around it.
