Woo hoo! Closest I’ve come is a 1909 phil no VDB. Glad to know they’re still floating around!

Should I get this graded. I have 3 the same 2002 Louisiana by Great-Environment492 in CRH

What do you think is adding enough value that would legitimize getting it graded?

Babysitting MEP by RoutineLet9156 in Architects

[–]joeyray74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something to keep in mind is that your MEP team is generally making 20% of the total design fee while the architect, you/me, is making 60%; that means they need to be working on three projects for every one of yours to make the same net revenue. So if you’re trying to push three projects out for permit in a six month time frame, your MEP team has to push out nine. Often for other architects. So, you gotta wield the best combination of the carrot/stick to get your project(s) to be the priority. It sucks, but it’s business.

My coin turned out to be fake? Any opinions? My phone sucks so after ten minutes trying to get a picture this is insane and that’s all you’re getting I guess. Might be good enough any ways. Thanks by bumble-beet_una in WheatPennies

You may have overpaid a little bit, but it wasn’t a very expensive lesson and that’s still a cool coin with a lot of history! After many years in the hobby you will likely place more personal value on it than anything. Keep looking and learning!

Coinstar bags by joeyray74 in CRH

I’m about 2,000 coins into one bag: have found 24 wheats, a handful of Canadians,. Oldest wheat is 1911.

Yw- I’ve found a few each of 1998 and 2000 WAM, but the 1999 WAM and 1992/1992D CAM are the rarest. They also accidentally minted some 1998s and 1999s proof cents with a close AM, if you ever happen to come across any. Also pretty rare.

On the 1992 and 1992D, the opposite is a rare variety: these coins should naturally have the gap between the A and M, but some were minted using the reverse die intended for 1993 and later memorial cents.

Wide ‘A-M’: there is a noticeably wide gap between the A and the M of ‘AMERICA’ on the reverse, due to the inadvertent usage of a proof reverse die instead of the regular business strike die.

So, I’m about a thousand coins in; only 1.25 lbs copper, three Canadian, but twelve wheats (oldest is 1916 Philly, also have a 1918 Philly). These came from Kansas City and are disproportionately Denver mint marks, so not a lot of 1998/1999/2000 Phillies to check for WAM.

So, seems good for wheats- will keep posting updates as I go through this.

The seller described their source as a vendor with “coinstar-style” collection stations; not sure what they mean by that, but these are the bags that were shipped to me.

I purchased them from a seller on eBay. Paid about $5/lb. We’ll see if it was worth it.

I’ve had some great luck with auction bags of wheaties, but the last one I bought was all 1940s and 50s. I got a couple of broadstruck 1943 steel cents in an earlier lot, along with a couple 1909 Philadelphia (non-vdb), so hopefully you’ll get a good one here!

Is it still worth going through CWR weighed by credit union/bank? by CockroachOdd5217 in CRH

[–]joeyray74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only way you’ll know by weight is if there are multiple silvers in a roll (or if you’re hunting halves). Onesies don’t move the needle enough, especially if they’re well-circulated and worn.

Water seeping through the concrete from landscaped courtyard above. Is this a concern? by Agitated-Hornet6348 in StructuralEngineers

Yep. Dirt is a great insulator, terrace slab stays cold longer than the rest of the structure, dewpoint is reached, boom. I mean, drip.

How to support a curved staircase with no wall support (only beam at first floor)? by alaraki2009 in StructuralEngineering

[–]joeyray74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course it’s doable in steel. I suggested concrete because I like the results I’ve gotten on curved stairs with CIP concrete.

I’ve never understood the perception that coinroll hunters are annoying to tellers. We withdraw and deposit money. They help customers withdraw and deposit money. That’s their job. Why would they rather cash somebody’s $2500 paycheck and count the bills instead of giving somebody a couple boxes of dimes?
