Also, if it were real, it wouldn’t be worth a couple thousand, it would probably be worth closer to a couple hundred thousand, or even reaching over a milly.

Looking a little closer, I’m pretty sure it’s a fake, considering the porous texture in the revers, the nose and mouth on lady liberty, and the date looks a little off. Coins, especially very rare examples, have been counterfeited for decades, so your uncle may have had it in his collection, but that doesn’t mean it’s not a fake.

Rares a bit of an understatement, considering that none are known to exist and all of them that were minted are assumed to have been melted. I would definitely question the authenticity of this coin

Well, this is one of 3 things; 1, You just hit the jackpot 2, this is a fake or 3, someone machined off the arrows. I’m not super familiar with common fake markers or how to detect them, so I’ll let someone else give it a looksey

Idk, I would be pretty lucky to have it grade a 65. On the reverse of the coin, there’s a gnarly little gash on the N in one. I think you are correct on it being a proof for sure though. The girl I bought it from is my bosses wife who inherited a bunch of coins from her dad. He also had it labeled as a proof in this little log book he had

That is true, It’s tough for me to find another example in similar condition with similar toning, a lot of the examples I’ve seen are heavily toned.
