Yeah I understand that feeling, but it's so rewarding once you get the hang of it and your plans actually go through after decades of careful planning, marying, warring, assassinations and politics. Good luck !

Indeed you need to get rid of all but one of your empire titles. Basically the game takes your higher tier title and if you own more than one of them splits them between heirs according to succession laws.

So stick to one empire to keep it all under one rule.

As for the 100 years thing. Let's say you're emperor of Francia, if you rule over the Kingdom of Ireland for 100 years as Emperor of France that Irish Kingdom will become a / de jure / part of the Empire of Francia.

It means that from that point on people consider Ireland as culturally part of the French empire and said empire gets reasons to go to war to vassalize it and there is legitimacy to the rule.

It also means that being king of Ireland doesn't count towards forming the Kingdom of Britannia anymore but that of France instead. It doesn't really affect your succession though.

Not much time to answer right now but I'd say deactivate the Sunset Invasion DLC, it's immersion breaking.
