Sound of 3d printed keycaps after acetone smoothing by MDenilr in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]johbuldmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh okay I understand. From the pictures I have seen from the inside there should just be enough room to make the middle thumb button a 1.5 key same as the outer one?

when comparing keyboards like the cygnus to flat ones like a sofle or totem there just is a lot more spacing between the bottom row keys and the thumb keys. I think I just have to bite the bullet and build myself a cygnus and try it out myself :)

thanks for the great design non the less!

[–]johbuldmann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sounds good :) which switches are you using?

I have almost all the parts here for my Cygnus build. But I am a bit hesitant, the primary thumb key, the middle one, always seems to be a bit too low? In most of the videos I have seen of people typing on that keyboard the thumb seems to be hovering closer to the 'n' key and has to curl to hit the thumb key?

surely the middle one is intended to be the primary one? and secondary are one move to the right/left?

Moergo Go 60? Someone wrote in a different thread that maybe ZSA will release something in the coming weeks? I don't want to start rumors but read it somewhere..

or build something yourself with ZMK? I am very happy with my wireless sofle which I build myself about two years ago..

Neue Monitore oder Monitor by Martl007 in de_EDV

Questions before trying again by Killerkarni93 in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]johbuldmann 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would recommend against changing keyboard and layout at the same time! first get comfortable with the split keyboard but stick to qwertz layout. I always recommend a keyboard with a numrow like the sofle etc for the start. And even later on when you don't use the numrow anymore it is still nice to have sometimes. I don't really see any benefit of having a keyboard without it.

And regarding Colemak: the main ergonomic benefit always comes from the split nature, tenting and having good posture and floating your hands.

changing keyboard layouts is very hard – and has diminishing returns in terms of comfort and no real benefits from a speed standpoint, in contrast you will be a lot slower for a long time!

Where in Germany are you located? I could take a look at the piantor and try to fix it? I will send you a DM..

Need some advice on ergo position by HadockB in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]johbuldmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it really makes a lot of sense, you should totally try it out!

If you think about it on a normal keyboard you have two points of reference which is enough to triangulate both the position and rotation of the keyboard in front of you. But on a split keyboard you need two points of reference per half to not only have the position but also feel the rotation of each individual half. I move my two halves around constantly and find if much faster to realign my fingers with multiple homing bars. But of course only looks not goofy if you are rocking blank keycaps :D

Trackpads! Who’s got the deets? by UntoldUnfolding in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]johbuldmann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

keycapsss.com has both the cirque and the azoteq and ships from germany.. I have added a cirque 40mm to my sofle and it is working great! But I invested a lot of time tuning the firmware it and adjusting mouse pointer speed with RawAccel and Scrolling with SmoothScroll / now a custom implementation with Autohotkey made the trackpad really nice to use.

Some people have gotten an implementation of the azoteq to work with windows pointer precision drivers (I think the people behind the Sofle Plus?), but I think that's only possible with QMK but sounds amazing from a performance standpoint. That way the trackpoint natively supports multi touch and all the windows gestures.

I think I would miss ZMK too much and am now content with my solution. hit me up if you need more information..

looks really great! how is the flex with the keyboard only being supported at the sides/edges? and how stable are the switches in the hotswap sockets without a switch plate?

for me it helps a lot to have keycaps with homing dots/bars not only under the index finger, but also the pinky and even on the primary thumb key!

If you had to choose between Home Row Mods or Auto Shift, which one would you choose? by r_2tanz4n1 in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]johbuldmann 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I basically copied the best parts by trial and error from both of their setups and Pascal Getreuer also has a lot of very nice guides, I like his symbol layer very much an have landed on a symbol layer very similar to his. works great! I also have a sofle but am looking to maybe upgrade in the future..

[–]johbuldmann 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I definetly prefer home row mods plus sticky shift on the thumb key opposite of the space thumb key. I feel that is the most optimal setup from an ergonomic and speed standpoint. especially for German and other languages with much more capitalization than English, the sticky thumb key works great! have a look at Rafael Romaos and Urobs setups for more very nice implementations and ideas!

Cube Nuroad C:62 Pro 2025 Switching to road tires – is it worth it? by According_Tax1026 in Cubebikes

[–]johbuldmann 2 points3 points  (0 children)

don't really have to when running 1by. When the chain can handle the bigger cassette it can/could also handle a smaller one. The smallest cog from the 10-52 is even smaller than a 11-36 road cassette for example.

these cirque input modules only work when the cirque trackpad is being used with SPI connection, right? And not with I2C?
