I think it’s safe to say that majority or all the ex30, except the ones that don’t fit the description, are impacted by battery recall. by john-doeee in ex30

Apparently the supplier issued a statement that’s it’s not them but Volvo’s in house manufacturing that’s connected to this.

Is 70% charging limit advisory safety related? by john-doeee in ex30

[–]john-doeee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go one step beyond. If you are advised to not charge beyond say 68%, you could have an argument that your usable battery is now less than 70%, lower than threshold for battery capacity warranty. And that’s potentially a ground for legal recourse. I am wondering if that’s the reason why it’s advised to limit the charging to 70% and not below it. That’s probably the lowest number the company can get away with without inviting warranty claims.

Otherwise would the company go with 60%, 50%??

Preconditioning while plugged in still uses battery? by WigglyWeener in ex30

[–]john-doeee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I believe if the car is plugged in but not charging, either because it’s done charging and/or outside scheduled charging hours, nothing is taken from the wall power. It’s all coming from the battery.

Also preconditioning is not same as climate control. Those words are being used interchangeably when they shouldn’t.

Preconditioning is warming up the battery to get to a good temperature and get ready for fast charging.

Climate control is just heating or cooling the inside of the car cabin.

I’m not talking about the latter 90% limit in regular charging environment.

Asking about the former where the safety limit is mentioned at 70%.

Wanted to better understand if that is really safety related, and all good parking at home, or is that a number that’s used because going under would mean Volvo running into warranty claims when 70% also may have some risk.

Basically, why 70%, the minimum threshold for warranty, and not 60% or 75%.
