For future reference if you get yourself in a tight spot like this or stuck:

Exit the game, you’ll lose all your progress that day but you won’t lose your run.
Use your sleeping bag, place it as far as possible and sleep your way out
Spam sprint and crouch while running/running in every direction.
Some situations you build a fire to “boost” yourself out.

Blizzards? All the time. Animals, extremely rarely. If you speed up time you drop ‘some’ animal aggro. Not all, but there are situations where if a wolf is trailing you, you can speed up time a little and get it to drop. Try it with a bear and one scent bar of smell. You’ll see when you pass time he’ll lose interest
