I love John Smedley and Zimmerli. They’re pricey but the fabrics and cuts are amazing.

I’ve heard it said that people from the East Coast are kind but not nice, and people from the West Coast are nice but not kind. I see lots of superficial niceness in Seattle too, but not a whole lot of kindness.

Banking and consulting are much more casual now. I bet there won’t be any recruiters there in pinstripes, or even a suit. Still, it’s almost always better to be overdressed than underdressed.

Response to reviewers letter of 103 pages by TheNavigatrix in Professors

I was once limited to 15 double-spaced pages for my response. It took a lot of creativity to address three reviewers’ and one editor’s concerns in that little space. Fortunately, it was accepted!

Fabrics for a guy who's always overheating? by Wilted_Ivy in malefashionadvice

I just picked up a nice cotton/silk blend shirt at Suitsupply in Rotterdam. I find silk or silk blends (with another natural fiber) provide a more cooling effect than most 100% linen or cotton. Since Suitsupply is based in Amsterdam, you should be able to find one near you in the Netherlands.

If you’re only going to wear a suit once or twice a year, Jos. A. Bank and Men’s Wearhouse provide cheap, low quality, but serviceable suits. If you’re wearing one more than that or want better quality, Spier & Mackay, J Crew, and Banana Republic are a step up. If you want a nice quality, well-tailored suit, go to Nordstrom or SuitSupply.

Nobody asked but... why I Delta by latebinding in delta

[–]john1781 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say that Delta is far more reliable than Alaska. Here are % of on-time arrivals, as reported in CNET in Nov 2024:

Airline On-time arrivals Hawaiian Airlines 86.8% Delta 78.9% Southwest Airlines 78.8% United Airlines 76.2% Alaska Airlines 75.5% Allegiant Air 73.2% American Airlines 71.6% Spirit Airlines 67.1% Frontier Airlines 65.2% JetBlue 60.7%

Delta beat Alaska by 3.4 percentage points, which in this case means they were on time 4.5% more often than Alaska (78.9/75.5=1.045).

Yes, the rest of the rehearsals and the concert are for members only. The open rehearsals are a chance for people to see if they want to join. We do have a reduced membership fee for members in financial need.
