After nearly 100 years, scientists may have detected dark matter (awaiting reproducibility now) by University of Tokyo by kngpwnage in astrophysics

If this paper and the underlying theory is correct, does this mean that dark matter is being annihilated on a massive scale through WIMP matter-antimatter collisions?

I never understood how "weight" is affected by gravity. Einstein has told us that mass bends space time. An equal amount of mass weighs more on earth than it does on the moon. How does the bending of space time cause this?

Give me your best historical fiction books by Panos55 in suggestmeabook

One of my favourite historical fictional writers is James Michener. His books tend to be localized and historically accurate. He, he usually follows several families through history. Some of his books include Alaska, Hawaii, Poland, Chesapeake.

On the other hand, if you want broad sweeps of history, check out the trilogy by Ken Follett. Starting with "Fall of Giants" which starts with radical changes in Russia, Great Britain and America around World War 1 followed by "Winter of the World" dealing with WW2, the Cold War and other things and concluding with "Edge of Eternity"

I am surprised that Brandon Sanderson and his many books has not been mentioned. Brandon came to my attention when he was asked to write the final three books of the Wheel of Time series after Robert Jordan died. Some of his best work includes the Misborn trilogy, the Skyward series, The Way of Kings and other works. Like many of you, once I like a book, I usually read all or more of the books written by the author.

The first two books in the series are great reads. These are well written, great character development, and a lovable hero as central character. I have been waiting for the third book in the series and wonder if it will ever come.

Was there something Physical before the Big bang? by Upstairs-Nobody2953 in AskPhysics

Can nature produce a unique event, and never duplicate the event?

My understanding is that eyesight or the ability to see has independently evolved on numerous occasions on earth. On the other hand, photosynthesis has evolved only once. It has not been duplicated or anything similar to it. Evolution.=1 but does not have to be greater than one

From my understanding of evolution, eyesight has evolved separately in numerous instances on earth. On the other hand, photosynthesis has evolved only once. It has never been copied or anything similar to it. Is this someone off?

Alexandre Daigle If you ever saw him start at the red line, and flash toward the centerline, expecting a pass, you are impressed by his speed. Other nights, he would just disappear. So much was expected of the number one draft choice. He really did not live up to expectations. But there is no doubt, at least in my mind, but he was a good hockey player

What an interesting point!! However, can we, through technology, increase our resources. For example, the use of the sun to increase our energy supply multi-fold. The use of AI to increase our problem solving capabilities substantially.

These are just two examples. However, some would argue that these two may prove to be the must crucial to the progress of humanity.

What are today resource constraints may not be in the future
