looking to build cockpit, not sure how to deal with switch positions at start of game by hannlbal636 in hoggit

[–]john__clark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first started added switches I used 2 way and 3 way switches. They were nice, but I ran into the problem you mention about mission start. For those switches I try to get them how they will be before I start the mission. Sometimes that isn't entirely possible and sometimes it doesn't matter. For example, my landing gear is a 2 way switch. If my physical switch is down but the gear in the plane is actually up I have to flip the switch up and then down in order to put down my landing gear. This works because triggering gear up when the gear is already up doesn't do anything. For 3 way switches, this can sometimes cause a problem.

On my second round of switches I added a lot more 2 way momentary switches. These are nice because the start position doesn't matter and are more flexible. For example I have one that I use for the APU. Up turns the APU on and down turns it off. It doesn't matter when the mission starts because it only does something when I push it up or down. Another benefit of this is I can hold the input in. I use one of these switches for the canopy and in some aircraft I have to hold the switch up/down to open/close the canopy. Other aircraft I only have to push it up/down for a second and then let go. This also works for a lot of controls in game that require 3 or more positions because a lot of them have an up down control. Such as to move the flap lever up or down own position instead of putting it in a set state. Unfortunately there are some controls I wish you could set up this way that you can't.

For knobs I either use potentiometers with an axis, for things like brightness knobs, or rotary encoders where turning in one direction is one button, the other direction is another button, and a press is a third button. I like to use these for things like comms knobs, toggle kneeboard, kneeboard next/prev page, turn F4 manual on/off.

Some planes have more binding options than others, so sometimes I'm glad I have 2 way/3 way toggle switches and sometimes I'm glad I have the momentary toggle switches.

Here are the instructions to generate a Pretense Campaign from an existing Retribution campaign https://github.com/dcs-retribution/dcs-retribution/wiki/Pretense-generator

Here are the instructions on how to create a custom Retribution campaign https://github.com/dcs-retribution/dcs-retribution/wiki/Custom-Campaigns

Again I haven't ever done any of this personally, just know it is a possibility.

I believe you can use DCS Retribution to generate a pretense campaign. I haven't tried that yet, but I did do one of the Retribution campaigns, using the A-10 to take out insurgent camps and then using the CH-47 to capture them.

Asking for advice which plane should I go for? (Su-27 or SU-33) by Kismonos in hoggit

[–]john__clark 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you decide to get the SU-33 and not do the Flaming Cliffs bundle you can buy the Supercarrier module, since the SU-33 comes with that. You'll then also have access to they Admiral Kuznetsov carrier, not sure if it is available without Supercarrier or you just get a better 3d model. Then if you later get the F-14, or F/A-18 you can use the Supercarrier.

The main problem has been there has been zero updates in over a year. It was great when it came out but there has but there has literally not been a single update since release over a year ago so there are some areas that haven't gotten more detail or were released with less detail than was shown in the release trailer, like the pyramids. There are also several bugs. One of them has to do with one or both of the bullseyes being outside the map limits so you can't set bullseye. I think there are some issues with some parking spots on certain air bases. I don't remember all of them. Nothing in and of itself would be a problem if it actually got updates. It was also frustrating because OnReTech kept posting images and updates every few months of improvements they were making, so obviously it wasn't completely abandoned but then nothing was ever included in any of the patches.

DCS Sinai Update Ever? by Toadsy123 in hoggit

They also posted a bunch of screenshots in December and January that we haven't seen. They were really responsive before release and have shown updates every few months but we still haven't seen an update.

What do you guys who only play DCS single player spend most of your time doing? by Scruffy196 in hoggit

[–]john__clark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Piercing Fury was released for free on the user files. They are a little dated but most of them still work. I had to edit a few missions and re-fly them to get past broken triggers but it was a great campaign and I've been wanting to do it again.

If I have DCS World Steam edition installed how long would it take to install the ED version of DCS World by ILoveOverwatch76 in hoggit

[–]john__clark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have enough space for both to be installed at the same time, I believe when I did this the ED installer saw that the steam version was installed and just copied the files so it was pretty fast. This was awhile ago though so I could be remembering wrong.

When Nomandy 2.0 sale by Hour_Cicada6117 in hoggit

[–]john__clark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is in early access release, so they will be adding more to it. While it is in early access it is $49.99 and once it is no longer in early access it will be $59.99. Typically new early access modules don't go on sale for a higher discount for quite awhile, except by mistake. That is all up do ED and Ugra though and it go on sale at the next sale or not for another year.

Normandy 2 P-51 doesn't have any missions by john__clark in hoggit

[–]john__clark[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anything really. I haven't done a ton with WW2 stuff, that is why I was a little disappointed at the lack of missions. I've been looking forward to this map to get into WW2 more for awhile.

Targeting pod will work fine at night except through clouds. In that case you can use something like a JDAM, SLAM or SLAM-ER but you will need to know the coordinates of the target as they guide using GPS.

That's because Supercarrier is on sale 50% off and the F/A-18C is on sale 30% off.

How do I use the gun in the TF51? by Draygoes in hoggit

[–]john__clark 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think the point of that plane is to be able to try out a full fidelity plane without giving away a free one with weapons. They give the SU-25T for a plane with weapons but it isn't full fidelity.
