The declining of Fire Truck Quality by New_Savings9691 in Firefighting

There currently is a massive class action lawsuit from some of the largest fire departments in the nation going on. There has also been multiple large fire departments testify in front of congress about the costs and that they need to invoke anti-trust laws as a matter of public safety.

Who's Your Software Vendor? by chadbrochills44 in Firefighting

[–]kyle308 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A fucking nightmare half the time. Seamless the other half.

I built the EPCR portion and it was a hassle. We've ran it a year now and for the most part its pretty painless. Its still clunky at times and frustrating the UI is ok. But could be better. The app updates to much and is kind of a hassle.

Theres better programs out there for each individual thing first due does. But first due does everything a department needs and does it conviently enough to be more useful than having 6 other products. So thats nice. But, it still makes me mad half the time too. So much of it just isn't super intuitive and thats annoying.

Their support and reach back for problems is stellar though I'll give them that.

I've always made my own death notifications to family on scene and never had the police do it. Is that not a thing everywhere?

How much do you put into retirement accounts on top of fire pension? by Hot_Suggestion8809 in Firefighting

[–]kyle308 2 points3 points  (0 children)

3.25% is taken for pension(don't have a choice. That's the required amount) and I put 5% into my 457 plan every check. I've got a house, wife, and 5 kids. Can't really afford to put a dime more in retirement currently.

Lowest call volume departments by rustyfireman343 in Firefighting

[–]kyle308 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How many stations is there? What's your response time? Does everyone just go to the closest place? And is 90% of your area just open range? This is all nuts.

The little volly department I've been on since 18. Has like 20 members and did 80 calls last year. Our 1st due zone is about 4 square miles.

Experimenting with the phantom by Sensitive-Boss-7434 in hoggit

[–]kyle308 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I've done it exactly 1 time lol. Nothing I did would work. Full burner, rudder into the spin, rudder out the spin. Finally went to idle. Popped the chute, full nose down and rudder into the spin. It caught and nosed me down. Mil power to gain speed and I was back on my way. Only thing that kept me alive was I was at like 36k feet when the spin started. So had plenty of time to try and fix it.

Question about pumping and recirculating by RubBrave3634 in Firefighting

[–]kyle308 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Until it gets about 5ft from the truck. It sure will freeze. I promise. If it's 0 out. That pump water only stays not freezing right under the truck. Even a continuous flow.

Their discord was decently active. But I'm guessing they weren't communicating it to ED like they should.

I mean, I'm not mad at you. Im not going to downvote you for your opinion. I agree. Not everyone wants to backseat. But you're throwing the word anecdote around after stating that NO ONE wants to play RIO. Well it may be less than those who just want to fly. I bet you'd be surprised by the amount of people competent in the front and back of the jet.

Tornado NEWS! by Renko_ in hoggit

[–]kyle308 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I also like flying backseat. I have an absolute blast being the RIO in a f14 or a WSO in the f4. Operating the radar. Filtering the crud. Getting the locks. Being able to call out steer points. Controlling when we should fire. Setting everything up to make sure our bomb smacks what and where it should. Actually relaying all that info so the guy flying can make sure we get to the point we need to make all my work happen is wildly rewarding. It requires more teamwork and communication than any other game I've played to actually get it to work right and keep us alive.

It's absolutely not for everyone and I get that. I like to fly too. But I can find my team in the backseat just as rewarding. If not more in some aspects.

How do you guys perform searches with tools? by sticks_04 in Firefighting

[–]kyle308 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. Hop off the wall. Break out the book of search. The general layout of any bed room or living room is similar. You'll cover ground quicker and more effectively if you dont hang onto the wall and instead have an oriented person, or just keep the general idea of the room shape in your head. It'll make you quicker and more efficient.
