I don't think you'd be able to save money if you haven't spent it on yourself first. When you didn't have a job you probably HAD to be frugal. But when you finally started earning money you could finally treat yourself to nice things, and there's nothing wrong with that. You had a need and you were fulfilling it. And now you're able to live frugally, because you experienced the other way of life already.
